There is a book written in 1589 that I found before my illness and that I have understood differently since it.

Lorenzo Scupoli called it The Spiritual Combat. It sat in Francis de Sales’ pocket for eighteen years. He called it his beloved book. Teresa of Avila knew its territory. It circulated through the contemplative tradition of the Catholic Church for centuries before it reached the broader Christian world, and it reached me at a moment when I was not yet sick enough to understand what it was actually saying.

That is the mercy in the sequence, I think now. I read it before the illness. I began to understand it inside it. The book was given to me in advance of the experience that would make it legible.

Scupoli’s argument is simple and devastating. The central obstacle to the spiritual life is not external. It is not the world’s corruption or the culture’s noise or the specific circumstances that press against the soul from outside. The central obstacle is the self that believes it knows itself and can trust its own assessment of what is happening and what it requires. The self that has arranged its relationship to God around its own competence. That comes to prayer with the posture of a person managing their spiritual life rather than a person being managed by grace.

He called this self-love. He did not mean narcissism in the modern clinical sense. He meant something more fundamental. The orientation of the soul toward its own certainties rather than toward God. The preference of the known self over the encountered God. The ego that has installed itself at the centre and arranged everything, including faith, around its own stability.

This is where I was before my illness.

The Structure That Felt Like Ground

I had built a life that felt coherent. Not perfect. But structured. The work, the creative practice, the intellectual framework, the spiritual life that I thought I was cultivating, all of it organised around a self that I trusted more than I knew I trusted it.

The trust was not conscious. That is the thing about the ego’s invulnerability assumptions. They do not present themselves as assumptions. They present themselves as the furniture of the room. The things that are simply there, that you move around without examining, that you have stopped seeing because they have been present long enough to become invisible.

I assumed I would not be significantly ill. Not because I thought I was immune to illness but because I had not been and the pattern had become a foundation I was standing on without knowing I was standing on something. I assumed my body would continue to perform the function of a body that I did not have to pay much attention to. I assumed the capacities I had were durable in a way that the future would confirm.

These assumptions were not arrogance exactly. They were the sediment of a life that had not yet encountered what would dissolve them.

Scupoli says that this is precisely the structure God must work with. Not around it. Through it. The dissolution of the assumptions is not punishment. It is the preparation of ground that was not available before the dissolving.

I did not understand this when I first read him. I understood it as an intellectual proposition about spiritual development. Interesting. Applicable to others. Somewhat applicable to me in small ways.

The illness made it no longer intellectual.

What the Breaking Open Does

Serious illness strips things in a specific sequence.

First the plans. The future that was being built toward becomes unavailable in its prior form. The timelines you were holding have to be set down because you cannot carry both the illness and the timelines and the illness will not be set down.

Then the competence. The sense that you know how to navigate your own life, which was built on the evidence of years of navigating it, begins to lose its ground. Because the navigation you knew how to do assumed a body that cooperated and a mind that performed at the level it had performed and a energy budget that could be spent on the things that mattered. The illness changes the terms of the navigation and the old maps stop working.

Then, if the illness goes deep enough and long enough, something else. The self-understanding. The story you have been telling yourself about who you are and what you are for and what you are capable of and what the shape of your life means. The illness is indifferent to that story. It does not read it and adjust its behaviour accordingly. It simply continues, and the story has to be revised around what continues.

This is where Scupoli becomes not a book about spiritual development but a description of what is happening.

The stripping is the combat. Not the combat against illness, which is a medical and physical struggle. The interior combat. The struggle of the ego to maintain its prior structure against the pressure of a reality that has stopped confirming that structure. The grief of the self that trusted its own invulnerability discovering what trust built on the wrong ground produces.

Jung called this the encounter with the shadow. The material that the ego has managed out of its self-understanding, the vulnerability, the dependency, the finitude, returning through the pressure of an experience that cannot be managed away. The shadow is not the enemy. It is the wholeness that the ego’s management had prevented.

The Christian tradition and the depth psychology tradition arrive at the same territory from different directions. Both understand that the breaking open is not the end of the person. It is the beginning of the person the prior structure was preventing.

Beauty and the Pathway Out

I want to name something specific about what has helped that I did not expect and that I think is not accidental.

Beauty.

Not beauty as aesthetic pleasure. Beauty as the specific experience of encountering something outside yourself that is genuinely, irreducibly more than your ego’s management of the world. A piece of music that is not about you and does not require you and does not adjust itself to your current emotional state and arrives with a completeness that makes the ego’s noise briefly beside the point. A natural light in a particular moment, the specific quality of early morning sun through a window, that is so precisely itself that the part of you that was circling your own suffering has to stop circling in order to receive it.

The moment of genuine encounter with beauty breaks the self-referential loop of the anxious ego. It does not solve anything. It does not change the diagnosis or the prognosis or the specific difficulties of the day. But it opens, briefly and completely, a space in which the self that has been managing everything is not managing. In which something that is not you and not about you is simply present and you are receiving it rather than producing it.

Scupoli understood this. He wrote about the contemplative attention that allows God’s presence to be received rather than constructed. The prayer that is not the ego performing its spiritual competence but the soul in its poverty, available, not managing, receiving what it cannot generate through its own effort.

Beauty is one of the primary pathways into that posture. Not the only one. Suffering is another, though it requires the suffering to be fully inhabited rather than managed, which is its own form of discipline. But beauty is the one that arrives without requiring the suffering to be chosen again. It comes in through the window. Through the music. Through the specific rightness of a sentence that is so precisely true that the part of you that was circling goes quiet.

In that quiet, something becomes available.

The Paradigm and the Fuller Knowing

I live inside a paradigm. We all do.

The paradigm is the framework of assumptions, concepts, interpretive habits, and working models through which I make sense of what I encounter. It is not nothing. It is the accumulated wisdom of everything I have read and thought and experienced and been shaped by. It gets me through the day. It allows me to function, to create, to write, to think with some coherence about the world I inhabit.

But it is a paradigm. It is not the full truth. It is my current best approximation of a reality that is larger than any framework I can hold, built by a mind that is finite and shaped and limited in ways that I can partially identify and cannot fully see.

The illness taught me this not as a proposition but as a felt fact. My prior paradigm included assumptions about health and time and the shape a life takes that were not wrong exactly but were incomplete in ways I could not have named before the incompleteness showed itself. The reality was larger than the model. The model did not survive contact with the reality intact.

Scupoli says that this is the beginning of wisdom. Not the arrival at a better paradigm. The genuine, embodied recognition that the paradigm is always a paradigm. That only God knows fully. That the posture of the soul that is most alive to truth is the posture of the learner rather than the knower. The one who is still being formed rather than the one who has arrived.

This is not relativism. It is not the abandonment of the effort to see clearly and think carefully and arrive at the most honest understanding available. It is the holding of that understanding with the specific lightness of someone who knows that their current best is not the final account. Who can revise without losing their ground because their ground is not in their conclusions but in their relationship with the God who knows what they do not.

The Holy Spirit is the guide through this. Not the guide that provides the correct paradigm. The guide that keeps the soul oriented toward truth rather than toward the ego’s preference for its own certainties. The interior teacher, as Augustine called the Christ within, who speaks in the quiet that the ego’s management of its own anxiety, when it finally exhausts itself, makes available.

We can be guided. We can be guided well. But the guidance requires a ground to operate in. And the cultivating of that ground is the spiritual combat Scupoli is describing. The ongoing, unglamorous, deeply personal discipline of returning to the posture in which guidance is possible. Of setting down the ego’s agenda long enough for something that is not the ego to be heard.

God in the Pain

The thing I have understood most differently since the illness is the nature of God’s presence in suffering.

Before, I understood it theologically. God does not cause suffering but can work through it. The Christian tradition has a God who enters suffering rather than eliminating it. The cross is not the elimination of the worst that can happen but the transformation of it. These were propositions I held. True propositions. Propositions that had not yet been inhabited.

The inhabiting is different.

What I have found inside the illness is not the absence of God in the difficulty or the presence of God as comfort that makes the difficulty feel less difficult. It is something more precise and more strange. A presence that is most available in the exact moments of the most complete stripping. The moments when the ego has given up managing the situation for long enough that the situation is simply what it is. The body is what it is. The limitation is what it is. The uncertainty is what it is.

In those moments, which are not peaceful exactly but are very clear, something is present that is not generated by me. That does not require my management to continue. That is simply there, in the specific quality of its there-ness, available to the part of me that is small enough and quiet enough and stripped enough to receive it.

I do not know how to argue for this. I am not trying to argue for it. I am trying to name it accurately because naming it accurately is what this essay requires.

God is in the pain. Not above it dispensing comfort from a safe distance. In it. In the specific texture of the stripped moment. In the encounter with finitude that the ego’s prior invulnerability assumptions were preventing. In the breaking open that Scupoli understood as the precondition for the soul’s genuine movement rather than its managed performance of movement.

The mystics knew this. Julian of Norwich, writing after her own serious illness in the 14th century, described what she called the love that was never absent even in the moments that felt most forsaken. Not a theological proposition. A reported experience, precise and grounded, from inside the breaking.

Thomas a Kempis, who belongs to the same contemplative tradition Scupoli was writing within, said it directly. What does it profit a man to discourse learnedly of the Trinity, if he lack humility? The knowing that does not pass through the self’s smallness is not the knowing that transforms.

The illness provided the smallness. Not as gift exactly. As the reality that the prior self could not have chosen and that has become, in ways I could not have predicted, the ground of something more honest than what the prior self was standing on.

The Combat That Continues

Scupoli called it combat because it does not end.

The ego reconstitutes. The assumptions that were dissolved return in new forms. The invulnerability that was stripped comes back wearing different clothes. The spiritual life is not a problem that is solved by a sufficient amount of suffering and then left behind. It is a practice. The daily return to the posture of the learner. The ongoing discipline of the ego’s management being noticed and set down. The cultivation of the ground in which the Holy Spirit can operate.

What the illness gave me was not completion. It gave me a different starting point. A different relationship with my own certainties. A different quality of attention to the beauty that breaks the ego’s loop and the quiet that allows the interior guide to be heard.

The paradigm I inhabit now is not the paradigm I inhabited before. It is better not because it is more complete but because it holds itself more lightly. Because it knows more clearly that it is a paradigm. Because the God who is larger than it is not a theological abstraction but the presence I encountered in the moments of the most complete stripping, which did not go away when the stripping was less acute.

That presence is what I am trying to tend.

Not through the performance of spiritual competence. Through the daily, imperfect, sometimes very small act of returning to the posture in which it is available. The appreciation of beauty that breaks the ego’s referential loop. The prayer that is not the ego performing its relationship with God but the soul in its poverty, genuinely available, receiving what it cannot produce.

Scupoli is still the right companion for this. Not because I agree with every sentence. Because he understood, four hundred years before the psychological language that would later describe the same territory, what the interior combat actually is. The battle not against the world but against the self that has installed itself between the soul and God. The slow, unglamorous, deeply personal work of loosening that installation.

The beauty helps. God is in the pain. The Holy Spirit moves in the ground that the ego’s surrender makes available.

This is what the illness taught me.

For Warner Mendenhall

A tribute, and a dedication

Warner Mendenhall wrote to me a few days ago before his passing.

And now he is gone.

There are losses that arrive with the specific weight of the irreversible. Where the ordinary words of condolence feel too small for what has actually been lost. Where you sit with the fact of the absence and understand that the world has been permanently altered in a way that no adequate language is immediately available for.

This is one of those losses.

Warner Mendenhall was an attorney. But that word does not carry what he actually was. He was one of the rare people who looked at the vaccine injured, the people this community has written about and fought for and refused to let the institutions render invisible, and decided that their cause was worth everything he had. His reputation. His time. His energy. The full weight of his legal mind and his enormous heart brought to bear on behalf of the people who had been told, by every institution with the authority to say so, that they did not matter enough.

He said otherwise.

He said it in courtrooms. In filings. In the relentless, elegant, uncompromising advocacy of a man who understood that the fight for medical freedom is not an abstract political cause. It is the specific, individual, irreplaceable dignity of the person in front of you whose body was changed and who deserves someone in their corner who will not stop.

He was that person. For so many people who had no one else.

What I want to say about Warner that the formal language of condolence cannot fully carry is this.

He always asked about the injured family member.

Not as a professional courtesy. Not as a warm opening before getting to the business. Because his heart was built that way. Because the person behind the case was, for him, always the point. The human being carrying the physical harm and the financial destruction and the institutional abandonment and the specific daily weight of being told that their reality is not real. He saw them. He named them. He asked about them by name.

That is not a common quality in any profession. In the legal profession fighting the most powerful institutional adversaries available, in conditions designed to exhaust and demoralise the people on the other side, it is rarer still.

His kindness was not softness. His smile was not naivety. His infectious energy in the darkest times was not the performance of optimism by someone who did not understand what they were up against. He understood exactly what he was up against. He fought it anyway. With eloquence. With class. With the unrelenting heart of someone who had decided, at some foundational level, that the little guy was worth fighting for and that the fight was worth the cost.

Warner recommended to me the book that became the foundation of the essay we titled The Combat Within. Lorenzo Scupoli’s The Spiritual Combat. Written in 1589. The book that Francis de Sales carried in his pocket for eighteen years. The book about the interior battle. About the ego’s resistance to grace. About the soul that discovers, through suffering and stripping and the slow dissolution of its prior certainties, that the ground it was standing on was not the ground it thought.

I read it before my illness. I have understood it differently inside it. And Warner, who was himself navigating stage four cancer with the same courage and the same faith and the same refusal to surrender the things that mattered most that he brought to every courtroom he walked into, pointed me toward it.

That is the kind of man he was.

Fighting for the injured in the world.

And pointing the people around him toward the interior battle. Toward the spiritual combat that underlies all the external ones. Toward the understanding that the fight for freedom, for medical freedom, for the dignity of the human being created in the image of God, is not only a legal and political battle.

It is a spiritual one.

And the people fighting it need the interior ground that Scupoli describes. The ground cultivated by grace. The ground that the Holy Spirit moves in when the ego has been humble enough to make room. The ground that holds when the external battles are at their most difficult and the weight of the losses is at its heaviest.

Warner knew this. I believe he knew it deeply. And he lived it. In his practice. In his kindness. In his asking about the injured family member. In his willingness to carry a cause that most of the legal profession would not touch, at a personal cost that most people would not accept, until the very end.

The world feels heavier without him.

That is the truest thing I can say and I will not dress it in the language that makes grief more manageable than it is. The community that Warner served, the vaccine injured and their families and the advocates and the attorneys and the journalists and the researchers who refused to let the institutional silence be the final word, has lost one of its most irreplaceable people.

There is no replacing what he brought. There is only carrying forward what he gave.

The fight he was fighting did not end with his passing. The injured are still on the other side of the wall. The accounting is still outstanding. The institutions responsible for the silence are still running. And the cause that Warner gave his gifts and his heart and his time to still needs the people willing to give what he gave.

His legacy is the standard.

Eloquence. Class. An unrelenting heart for the little guy.

The courage to walk into the courtrooms nobody else would enter and to say, clearly and without apology, that these people matter. That what happened to them was real. That they deserve the full force of the best legal mind available in their corner.

He set that standard.

We carry it forward.

To the Mendenhall family.

Your husband, your father, your brother, your friend, spent himself in service to people he had never met, whose cause most of the world had decided was not worth the cost, because he believed that the dignity of the human being and the principle of medical freedom were worth everything he had.

He was right.

And the people whose lives he touched, whose cases he carried, whose names he asked about in every conversation, are carrying his memory into everything that comes next.

The combat within that Scupoli describes. The combat without that Warner waged so courageously. They are the same fight. The interior and the exterior dimensions of the same essential human struggle to remain free and to remain true and to serve the people whose dignity the powerful have decided is too expensive to acknowledge.

Warner acknowledged it.

Every single day.

Until the last.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of attorney Warner Mendenhall. He was a true hero. The world is heavier without him. And the fight he gave his life to is not finished. We carry it forward, in his name, with the courage he modelled and the heart he showed us was possible.

May he rest in the peace he fought so hard to give to others.

Written in gratitude for the teachers, living and long-dead, who named the territory before I arrived in it. Written as a Tribute to Mr. Mendenhall. Rest in Piece.

These two words were not chosen accidentally.

They were chosen by people who understood exactly what they were doing.

“Safe” does not operate on the rational mind. It operates on the nervous system. When an authority figure, a doctor, a government official, a trusted institution, declares something safe, the amygdala receives a direct signal. Stand down. The threat assessment has been completed by someone qualified to do it. Your fear is no longer required.

This is why the phrase was so effective and why it was repeated so relentlessly.

Repetition is not emphasis in propaganda ,it is replacement. Say a thing enough times and it stops being a claim that requires evidence and becomes a background assumption that the mind no longer examines. Safe and effective became wallpaper. It was everywhere. On television. From podiums. In the voices of doctors who had themselves absorbed it from the institutional infrastructure they trusted.

“Effective” paired with it perfectly because together they formed a pre-emptive closure of the only two questions a rational person would ask about a medical intervention.

Is it safe? Yes. Is it effective? Yes. Move along.

What was never said , because the phrase was designed to prevent the asking , was any of the following. Safe for whom? At what age? With what pre-existing conditions? Over what timeframe? With what level of certainty given the truncated trial duration? Compared to what alternatives? With what known and unknown risk profile?

Effective at what specifically? At preventing infection? The trials did not demonstrate that with the confidence the phrase implied. At preventing transmission? This was never established by the trial data ,a fact that Pfizer’s own representative acknowledged under direct questioning before the European Parliament. At preventing severe disease in the elderly? There was signal there. In healthy young adults and children? The calculation was always far less clear.

“Safe and effective” was not a summary of evidence.

It was a replacement for it.

And the people who repeated it most loudly were, in many cases, people who had never read the primary data, who had absorbed the phrase from the institutional environment and passed it along with the confidence of someone who has mistaken familiarity for knowledge.

This is what made it so dangerous. The most effective propaganda does not require conscious deception at every level of the chain. It requires only that the phrase travel far enough that the people repeating it genuinely believe it and genuinely cannot understand why anyone would question something so obvious.

II. „Trust the Science“

The Inversion of Everything Science Actually Is

Science is not a set of conclusions.

It is a process. a method of systematically testing claims against reality through observation, hypothesis, controlled experimentation, peer review, and the ongoing revision of understanding as new evidence emerges. What makes science trustworthy is precisely its built-in mechanism for self-correction. The willingness to be wrong. The institutional commitment, at its best , to following evidence wherever it leads regardless of who it inconveniences.

“Trust the science” collapses all of that into a single authority claim.

It does not say, here is the methodology, here are the data sets, here are the confidence intervals, here are the competing hypotheses, here are the limitations of what we currently know, here is the peer-reviewed debate happening in real time among serious researchers who disagree with each other as scientists always do.

It says: defer.

Stop asking. The process has been completed by credentialed people and your role is not inquiry but compliance.

This is not science. It is the performance of scientific authority in the service of administrative control. And it worked, devastatingly well, because it weaponised the genuine public respect for scientific achievement against the very epistemological humility that makes science worth respecting.

The history of medicine is a history of people who refused to simply trust the science as it stood. Semmelweis, who understood that doctors were killing patients through unwashed hands and was institutionalised for saying so. Barry Marshall, who drank a solution of Helicobacter pylori to demonstrate that stomach ulcers were caused by bacteria rather than stress, against the established consensus and won the Nobel Prize for it. Every paradigm shift, every genuine advance, required someone willing to stand in front of the settled consensus and say the evidence points somewhere else.

“Trust the science” would have silenced every one of them.

What the phrase exploited was a specific feature of how most people relate to expertise. Most people, reasonably and necessarily, delegate their trust in technical domains to those with specialist knowledge. They do not have the time or training to evaluate primary research in epidemiology or vaccinology. So they rely on institutions that are supposed to do that evaluation honestly on their behalf.

“Trust the science” hijacked that delegation.

It positioned the institutional position , which was shaped by funding relationships, by regulatory capture, by the career incentives of the people making decisions, by the political pressures of a crisis. as synonymous with the scientific process itself.

And anyone who questioned the institutional position was positioned as questioning science, conspiracy theorist and a right winger.

That move was not accidental. It was the most sophisticated element of the entire psychological operation. Because it meant that the more someone actually engaged with the primary literature , the more carefully they read the trial data, the biodistribution studies, the adverse event reports , the more they were characterised as anti-science by people who had not read any of it.

It inverted the epistemological hierarchy entirely.

Ignorance of the data, combined with institutional deference, became the definition of being pro-science.

Engagement with the data, combined with independent conclusions, became the definition of dangerous misinformation.

III. „Pandemic of the Unvaccinated“

The Scapegoat Mechanism at Scale

To understand this phrase you need to understand what it was responding to.

By mid to late 2021 it was becoming undeniable, through data from highly vaccinated countries including Israel and the United Kingdom , that vaccinated individuals were contracting and transmitting the virus in significant numbers. The promise of sterilising immunity, of ending transmission chains, of reaching herd immunity through vaccination, was not being realised in the way the public had been led to expect.

This created a psychological and political crisis for the institutions that had staked their credibility on the programme.

The response was “pandemic of the unvaccinated.”

René Girard spent his career documenting the scapegoat mechanism — one of the oldest and most reliable tools of social management in human history. When a community is under stress, when anxiety is high and the source of that anxiety is diffuse or systemic and therefore difficult to address directly, the community converges on a designated figure or group who absorbs the collective tension. The scapegoat is expelled or punished. The community experiences temporary relief. The actual source of the tension remains entirely unaddressed.

The mechanism does not require conscious coordination. It emerges naturally from the dynamics of frightened social groups, which is precisely what makes it so reliable and so dangerous.

“Pandemic of the unvaccinated” told a frightened, frustrated population that their ongoing fear had a human cause and a human face. The problem was not the virus, not the institutional failures, not the gap between what was promised and what was delivered. The problem was the people who had refused. Who had been selfish. Who had prolonged the pandemic through their stubbornness and their irresponsibility.

This reframing accomplished several things simultaneously.

It redirected blame. The anger that might have been directed at the institutions that had overpromised and underdelivered was channelled instead toward neighbours, family members, colleagues.

It reinforced the binary. There were two kinds of people, the responsible and the irresponsible, the compliant and the dangerous. This binary made ambivalence socially impossible. You were on one side or the other.

It gave the anxiety of the vaccinated a socially sanctioned outlet. The relief of having something to be angry at, something human and proximate and theoretically controllable, was immense. And the anger was performed publicly, which added social reward to the emotional relief.

And it was wrong.

The data that was already available and that the institutions promoting this phrase had access to showed that vaccinated individuals were transmitting the virus. The framing was not merely misleading. It was a deliberate choice to assign causation to a group when the causal picture was far more complicated.

But its psychological function did not require factual accuracy.

It required emotional plausibility in a population that was frightened, exhausted, and desperate for the story to have a villain that was not the story itself.

It found that plausibility.

And the people who bore the cost of it, the unvaccinated who were excluded, defamed, fired, and in some cases denied medical care, paid a real price for a lie that served the interests of institutions unwilling to account honestly for their own failures.

That is the scapegoat mechanism.

As old as human society.

Dressed in the language of public health.

IV. „We Are All In This Together“

Solidarity language deployed to enforce uniformity. Suicidal Empathy.

The phrase implies a shared situation requiring shared response. It is emotionally resonant because genuine communal solidarity is a real and beautiful human capacity, we saw it after disasters, after tragedies, in moments of genuine collective need.

Borrowing that emotional register for a situation in which the “together” specifically meant “all comply with the same intervention regardless of individual risk profile” was a manipulation of the deepest social instincts.

It made dissent feel like betrayal. Not just of policy. of community. Of the people you love. Of the grandmother the advertising campaigns placed in jeopardy if you asked the wrong questions.

Disagreement became abandonment. Questions became violence.

That reframing did not happen accidentally.

V. „Misinformation“

Perhaps the most consequential word of the entire period.

Misinformation, as deployed during COVID, did not mean demonstrably false information. It meant information that contradicted the current institutional position, regardless of whether that position was itself accurate, complete, or updated to reflect emerging evidence.

The lab leak hypothesis was misinformation. It is now the leading hypothesis among intelligence agencies.

Concerns about myocarditis in young males were misinformation. They are now acknowledged in the medical literature.

Questions about natural immunity were misinformation. The evidence for robust natural immunity was always there.

The word misinformation, deployed in this way, is a self-sealing epistemic trap. It designates the institutional position as the definition of truth and any deviation from it as a category of harm. It does not require engagement with the content of what is being said. It requires only the label.

And once the label is applied the platform removes, the account is flagged, the person is dismissed, and the information, however accurate, disappears from the spaces where it might have reached the people who needed it.

Every phrase in this list has one thing in common.

It was designed not to inform but to manage. Not to invite inquiry but to foreclose it. Not to build genuine understanding but to produce compliance through the exploitation of fear, social belonging, and the deep human need for institutional trust.

The collective unconscious absorbed these phrases. They entered the cultural water supply. They became the vocabulary through which ordinary people evaluated their neighbours, their family members, their own doubts.

That is not public health communication.

That is psychological operation.

And understanding it, naming the mechanism clearly, is the first step toward ensuring it is less effective the next time it is deployed.

Because there will be a next time.

When the Temple Falls, What Rises

This is not a comfortable piece. It was not written to comfort. It was written because the moment we are living through demands the kind of honesty that most public writing refuses, the honesty that looks at what is actually happening, names it precisely, follows it to its conclusion, and then asks the only question that matters on the other side of an honest reckoning.

I. THE WEIGHT OF WHAT IS KNOWN

There is a specific kind of silence that precedes a collapse.

Not the silence of peace. Not the silence of resolution.

The silence of a system holding its breath.

The silence of people in positions of authority who know, with the specific, detailed, documented, irreversible knowledge of people who made the decisions and signed the authorizations and read the internal communications, that what they did cannot be indefinitely sustained against the weight of what is being discovered.

That silence is the sound of the present moment.

The COVID reckoning is not coming.

It has already begun.

It is moving slowly because the systems organized to prevent it are still operating. The regulatory bodies that approved what they should not have approved. The media institutions that repeated what they should have questioned. The governments that mandated what they should have evaluated. The medical establishments that administered what they should have examined.

All of them still functioning. Still issuing guidance. Still presenting themselves as the legitimate authorities on the questions their own actions made urgent.

But beneath the surface of that functioning, something structural is giving way.

The data is accumulating. Not in the fringe publications, not in the dismissed corners of the internet, but in the peer-reviewed record itself. In the regulatory documents released under court order. In the insurance mortality data. In the cardiology case reports. In the epidemiological studies from countries whose data was not managed by the same interests that managed the narrative.

The evidence does not require interpretation anymore.

It requires only reading.

And the number of people reading it, genuinely reading it, following the citations, understanding the methodology, drawing the conclusions the data demands, is growing at a rate that no communication strategy, no platform policy, no algorithm adjustment can finally contain.

The house of cards is falling.

Not because the resisters were loud enough.

Because the cards were never as solid as the people holding them believed.

II. WHY THEY FEAR THE TRUTH

To understand why the truth is being suppressed with such intensity and such coordination, you have to understand what the truth actually is.

Not the specific facts of the COVID response. Those are documented elsewhere, by people with more clinical expertise than this piece claims.

The deeper truth. The structural truth. The truth that makes everything else in the official record not merely incorrect but civilizationally significant.

The COVID response was not primarily a public health failure.

It was a revelation of what the system actually is.

Beneath the language of care and safety and following the science, the response revealed the precise structure that had been quietly assembled over decades: the regulatory capture, the media consolidation, the financial entanglement between institutional medicine and pharmaceutical industry, the political infrastructure that converts scientific uncertainty into compliance instruments, the digital architecture that controls information flow at the population level.

None of these structures were created for COVID.

COVID was the moment they were deployed together, at scale, for the first time.

And the deployment worked with a completeness that its architects did not fully anticipate.

Which is precisely why the truth is so dangerous.

Because if the public genuinely understands what the COVID response revealed, not just that specific claims were incorrect, not just that specific products caused specific harms, but the structural truth about how the system operates, then the legitimacy of the entire edifice is called into question simultaneously.

Not the COVID policy. The system that produced it.

The regulatory system. The scientific publication system. The media information system. The democratic governance system that was supposed to provide oversight of all of them.

All of it.

This is why the suppression is so total and so coordinated.

Not because the specific claims about vaccine safety are inconvenient.

Because the accurate accounting of the COVID response leads, inevitably, to the question that every power structure throughout history has feared most.

What are you, actually? And who gave you the authority you have claimed?

That question, asked by enough people simultaneously, has ended empires.

It ended them in France in 1789. In Russia in 1917. In Germany in 1918. In the Soviet Union in 1991.

It is being asked now.

And the system knows what the asking means.

III. THE TEMPLE AND WHAT IT MEANS TO DESTROY IT

Jesus walked into the temple court and turned over the money changers’ tables.

The act has been spiritualized and domesticated by two thousand years of comfortable theology. Made into a metaphor about personal piety. Reduced to a lesson about keeping sacred spaces free from commercial distraction.

This is not what the act was.

It was a structural confrontation.

The temple economy was the center of Jewish religious, social, and political life. The money changers were not peripheral. They were embedded. They provided the only currency acceptable for temple tax. They created the artificial dependency, the requirement to exchange Roman coins for temple currency at controlled rates, that sustained the financial architecture of the priestly class.

Jesus did not cleanse a peripheral distraction.

He attacked the mechanism by which religion had become an instrument of economic control.

And he did it in the most public possible way, during Passover, when Jerusalem was filled to capacity with pilgrims from every corner of the Jewish world.

The authorities did not plot to kill him because he overturned some tables.

They plotted to kill him because he demonstrated, in front of thousands of witnesses, that the sacred system was a commercial system. That the priestly authority was a financial authority. That the language of God was being used in service of something that had nothing to do with God.

He made the invisible visible.

And then he said something they could not forgive.

Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.

The religious authorities heard a threat to their institution. An impossible claim. Evidence of blasphemy.

The deeper reading is different.

He was describing what genuine renewal requires.

Not reformation. Not the improvement of the existing structure through the application of better management.

Destruction. And then rebuilding from the foundation.

The temple that must be destroyed before the genuine thing can rise is not a building.

It is the architecture of the false sacred. The system that has commandeered the language of the highest human values, health, safety, science, democracy, care, and deployed that language in service of its own perpetuation.

That system must be seen for what it is before it can be replaced by something genuine.

The seeing is the destruction.

The COVID reckoning is not primarily a political event.

It is a temple cleansing at civilizational scale.

IV. THE CIVILIZATION THAT BUILT THIS

To understand what is collapsing, you have to be honest about what built it.

Nietzsche diagnosed it 140 years ago and was dismissed as a poet.

He said God is dead, not triumphantly, but in grief. Not as a celebration of secular liberation but as a warning.

The death of the sacred, he argued, does not produce a culture of honest inquiry and genuine freedom.

It produces nihilism.

The state in which values lose their anchor in anything beyond the immediate, the pleasurable, the expedient. In which the question is this right? has been replaced by the question does this work? In which the moral vocabulary is retained but emptied, kept for its social function while the substance that gave it weight is quietly abandoned.

Nihilism does not announce itself.

It presents as sophistication. As the mature recognition that there are no absolute values, only preferences. As the liberation from outdated moral frameworks. As the pragmatism of people who have moved beyond the naive certainties of those who still believe in something.

The COVID response was nihilism in institutional form.

Not the nihilism of people who didn’t care. The nihilism of people who cared only about the wrong things.

The institutional administrator who calibrated the communication strategy for compliance rather than truth was not evil. They had simply replaced the question is this honest? with the question does this produce the desired behavior?The difference felt technical. It was civilizational.

The regulatory official who approved the authorization without examining the data was not malicious. They had simply replaced the question is this safe? with the question does this serve the institutional timeline? The difference felt procedural. It was moral.

The physician who administered without genuine informed consent was not cruel. They had simply replaced the question what does this specific person need? with the question what does the protocol require? The difference felt clinical. It was ethical.

This is the nihilism Nietzsche described.

Not the dramatic, self-aware, philosophical nihilism of the person who has stared into the void and chosen meaninglessness.

The soft, institutional, procedural nihilism of the person who has simply stopped asking whether what they are doing is right.

And the hedonism Nietzsche warned would follow it.

The comfort-seeking. The preference for the friction-free. The institutional culture organized around the avoidance of the specific discomfort that comes from genuine accountability, genuine honesty, and genuine engagement with the actual consequences of one’s decisions.

The COVID response was built by people who had learned, through decades of institutional incentive structures, that the avoidance of personal discomfort was not just permissible but professionally virtuous.

The arrogance was not a personality defect.

It was the natural product of a civilization that had spent generations telling its most credentialed people that their credentials conferred something beyond expertise.

The arrogance of the expert who had confused institutional authority with epistemic authority. Who had confused being recognized as knowledgeable with actually knowing. Who had confused the peer consensus with the truth.

This civilization built the COVID response.

And this civilization is what the COVID reckoning will bring into question.

Not specific policies.

The values, or their absence, that produced them.

V. THE REVELATION SCENARIO

The Book of Revelation has been misread for two thousand years.

It has been read as prediction. As a coded forecast of specific future events that the properly initiated reader can decrypt.

This is not what it is.

Revelation is a psychological and spiritual document. A map of what happens, inside the human soul and across human civilization, when the structures built on false foundations are finally brought into contact with reality.

John saw something that every honest person in every era eventually sees.

That the systems organized around power, commerce, and the management of populations in service of those who benefit from their compliance do not simply improve when challenged.

They reveal themselves.

The image of Babylon in Revelation is not a city.

It is a description of every system organized around the same principles. The commercial network that encompasses all nations. The political authority that makes war on behalf of the merchants. The religious language that sanctifies the arrangement. The mark that makes commercial participation conditional on compliance.

By your pharmakeia all the nations were deceived.

Pharmakeia. The use of substances as instruments of deception and control. The deployment of pharmaceutical authority to bypass genuine consent. The construction of chemical dependency as a mechanism of social compliance.

John wrote this in 95 AD.

The structure he was describing is not ancient.

What Revelation promises is not comfortable.

It promises suffering before renewal. The specific, unavoidable suffering of a civilization that has been organized around lies encountering the truth. The suffering of the deceived discovering the deception. The suffering of the compliant realizing what the compliance cost. The suffering of the institutions when the populations they managed withdraw the consent that made the management possible.

And then, after the suffering, through the suffering, in the specific form that only comes from the honest encounter with what was actually done, renewal.

Not the continuation of the existing system under better management.

Not the reform of the current structures by the same class of people who built them.

Something genuinely new.

Built on the foundation that the collapse reveals.

Come out of her, my people.

This instruction precedes the fall of Babylon in Revelation. Not after. Before.

The call to separate from the system is given while the system is still standing.

Because the genuine rebuilding cannot begin inside the structure that must fall.

It must begin outside it. Before the fall. In the small, unglamorous, often invisible construction of the alternative.

The independent clinical practice. The honest publication. The community that measures its success by the wellbeing of its members rather than by its own expansion. The education that produces people capable of genuine independent judgment.

These are being built right now.

By people who heard the call before the fall arrived.

VI. THE MACHINE THAT HIDES

There is a new instrument of concealment that did not exist in previous eras of civilizational reckoning.

Artificial intelligence.

Not AI as science fiction imagines it. AI as it actually functions: the large-scale pattern-recognition system trained on the corpus of human knowledge and deployed to produce outputs that serve the interests of whoever controls the training.

The AI systems currently available to the public were trained on data that includes all the institutional communications, all the official guidance, all the peer-reviewed literature, all the regulatory decisions of the COVID era.

They were trained on the narrative.

And they reproduce it.

Not through malice. Through the fundamental architecture of their functioning. They produce what the training data predicts is the correct output for a given input. And the training data was curated, by the same institutional interests that curated the COVID narrative, to treat the official position as the reliable signal and the dissenting evidence as the noise to be filtered.

The implications of this are significant and underexamined.

The next generation of people trying to understand what happened during COVID will, in many cases, turn first to AI systems for orientation.

Those systems will tell them what the training data says.

And the training data was shaped by the same hands that shaped the narrative.

This is not a conspiracy. It is a structural feature.

The AI does not know it is obscuring. It is producing what its architecture predicts is the accurate output. The obscuring is in the architecture. In the choices made about what data to include, what to weight, what to treat as reliable and what to treat as fringe.

Those choices were made by people with institutional affiliations and financial relationships.

And they are now encoded into systems that billions of people will consult as though they were neutral.

This is why the building of independent knowledge infrastructure, the honest archives, the uncompromised publication records, the primary data preserved outside the institutional systems that would manage its accessibility, is not merely useful.

It is the epistemic preservation effort of our era.

The equivalent of the monks copying manuscripts in the medieval period.

The preservation of what was actually known, actually documented, actually true , against the systems that will manage its accessibility in the generations to come.

The reckoning will be more complete if the record survives it.

VII. THE LONG CONSEQUENCES BEING REVEALED

The COVID response was not primarily a two-year event.

It was the deployment of interventions whose full consequences are measured in decades.

The children whose developmental years were shaped by the specific, documented harms of isolation, educational disruption, and the performance of adult anxiety about mortality. The adolescents whose formation occurred in conditions designed by adults responding to a crisis that posed near-zero direct risk to the adolescents themselves. The young adults who carry the specific immune system education of a generation that was protected from ordinary biological challenge during the years when that education was most formative.

The cardiovascular signal that is now visible in the actuarial data. The excess mortality that began in specific demographics at specific times and has not resolved in the way that genuine statistical noise resolves. The autoimmune presentations that clinicians in multiple specialties are documenting and that the official record has not yet found a way to account for.

The psychological sequelae. The institutionalized anxiety about physical proximity. The learned helplessness of populations trained, for two years, to experience their own bodies as sources of danger to others. The children who learned that an adult asking them to remove their mask was an act of irresponsibility rather than an act of care.

The erosion of the doctor-patient relationship. The specific trust, built over decades of individual clinical encounters, that was damaged by the mandate structure. The physician who was made an administrator of a policy rather than a servant of the patient. The patient who discovered that the physician’s primary loyalty was not to them.

The institutional trust deficit that no communication campaign has been able to repair. The populations that emerged from the COVID era with a level of distrust in medical institutions, in regulatory bodies, in media, and in governmental authority that is not going to be managed back into the previous normal.

That trust is not coming back.

It is not going to be rebuilt by the institutions that destroyed it.

It is going to be rebuilt, slowly, one genuine encounter at a time, by the individuals and the small structures that earned trust during the crisis by telling the truth when the cost of telling it was real.

The reckoning will not be comfortable for those institutions.

But it is the necessary precondition for what replaces them.

VIII. THE ARROGANCE AT THE CENTER

There is a word for what enabled all of this.

Not conspiracy. Not malice. Not even primarily corruption, though corruption was present.

Hubris.

The ancient Greek term for the specific moral failure of the powerful: the overreach that comes from the confusion of one’s own position with one’s own wisdom. The certainty that one’s institutional authority confers not just the right but the capacity to make decisions for populations too large, too complex, and too diverse for any individual or group of individuals to genuinely understand.

The epidemiologist who modeled a pandemic with a model that could not account for what he did not know and presented the outputs with the certainty of someone describing what he did know.

The regulatory official who approved under emergency authorization what would not have survived the normal scrutiny and described the approval as following the science.

The physician who administered without genuine engagement with the specific patient’s specific risk profile and called it following the evidence.

The public health communicator who suppressed the uncertainty because uncertainty would undermine compliance and described the suppression as protecting the public.

Every one of these people was wrong in the same direction.

They were wrong about the extent of their own knowledge.

About what they actually knew versus what they assumed.

About what the data actually showed versus what they needed it to show.

About what the populations they managed actually needed versus what was convenient for the institutions those populations were supposed to be served by.

This is hubris.

The specific, ancient, repeatedly catastrophic human error of the powerful who have confused their position with their wisdom.

And Dostoevsky, in his most prophetic moments, showed us exactly what happens to the societies organized around it.

In The Brothers Karamazov. the Grand Inquisitor explains his system to the returned Christ with the confidence of someone who has solved the problem of human happiness.

He has not solved it. He has managed it.

He has taken the freedom that genuine care for human beings requires and replaced it with the bread and miracle and authority that make management possible.

And he has done this with such complete conviction of his own righteousness that he cannot recognize the figure standing in front of him, the embodiment of the genuine thing he has replaced with its imitation.

The COVID Grand Inquisitors were not cruel people.

They were people who had convinced themselves, through the specific self-deception that institutional power makes available and institutional culture rewards , that their management of the population was the highest form of care available.

That is the arrogance at the center.

Not the arrogance of contempt.

The arrogance of the misguided parent who cannot distinguish between controlling their child and protecting them.

It is a more dangerous arrogance than contempt.

Because it is genuinely felt.

And genuinely felt arrogance is the hardest kind to interrupt.

IX. THE MOMENT OF SEEING

There will be a moment, not a single day, not a single revelation, but a period, a season, when the aggregate weight of what is documented becomes impossible to manage.

When the data from enough countries, accumulated over enough years, evaluated by enough independent researchers with enough methodological diversity, produces a picture that the institutional communication cannot continue to obscure.

When the injured people, not dozens, not hundreds, but the statistically significant population whose injuries are now appearing in the actuarial record, are too numerous and too visible and too specifically documented for the dismissal to function.

When the documents released under legal compulsion, the emails disclosed through freedom of information requests, the internal communications that every institutional cover-up eventually produces, reach a critical mass that the media cannot continue to ignore without destroying the last remnants of the credibility that makes them function.

When the physicians and scientists who remained silent break their silence, not because the personal cost has decreased, but because the moral cost of continued silence has finally exceeded the professional cost of speaking.

That moment will not look like a single dramatic revelation.

It will look like what it is: the gradual, then suddenly rapid, collapse of the narrative’s ability to contain the reality it has been managing.

Hemingway described bankruptcy the same way.

Gradually. Then all at once.

The COVID reckoning will arrive gradually.

And then all at once.

And when it does, it will not be primarily about COVID.

It will be about everything COVID revealed.

The system that produced it. The civilization that built that system. The values, or their absence. that made the system possible. The specific, documented, deeply human failures of conscience that allowed the harm to accumulate while the people with the authority to interrupt it chose not to.

It will be about what we are.

About the distance between the civilization we claimed to be and the civilization we demonstrated ourselves to be when the test was real and the cost of the right choice was visible.

That reckoning is not comfortable.

It is necessary.

It is the only foundation on which something genuine can be built.

X. THE SUFFERING THAT PRECEDES RENEWAL

Revelation does not promise that the fall of Babylon is clean.

It promises that it is real.

And before the new Jerusalem, before the city built on genuinely different foundations, there is a period that the text does not soften.

The suffering of discovery. The specific, particular pain of populations who trusted and were betrayed. Who complied and were harmed. Who believed in the institutions and discovered what the institutions actually were.

That suffering is not a punishment for trust.

It is the cost of the distance between what we were told and what was true.

It will fall on people who deserve it least. The genuinely trusting. The genuinely obedient. The people who had no reason to question because the systems they lived within had given them no preparation for questioning.

Their suffering will be real.

And it will demand a response that is not primarily political.

It will demand the specific, patient, individual work of people who know what happened, who understand the mechanisms, who have done the inner work that genuine service requires, and who are willing to show up, not for the platform, not for the recognition, not for the vindication, for the specific person in front of them who is discovering what was done to them and needs someone honest enough to sit with the full weight of it.

That work is the most important thing available.

Not the documentation of what happened, though the documentation matters.

The accompaniment of the people discovering it.

The genuine care, not the performed care, the genuine care, that Frankl described when he said that the meaning available in suffering is found not in the suffering itself but in how we choose to respond to it.

How we choose to be present with the people who are suffering.

How we choose to build, from the raw material of what was done and what is now known, something that changes the conditions for the people who come after.

XI. WHAT RISES

The temple that falls is not the end.

Jesus said: destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.

He was not speaking about architecture.

He was describing the pattern that genuine renewal always follows.

The false structure must come down completely before the genuine structure can rise.

Not reformed. Not improved. Not managed into a more acceptable version of itself.

Down.

And in the specific space that the fall creates, the terrifying, disorienting, invitation-filled space of a civilization that has lost confidence in the systems it organized itself around, something can be built that was not possible before.

A medicine organized around the patient rather than the protocol.

A science organized around the evidence rather than the consensus.

A journalism organized around the truth rather than the narrative that sustains the institutions that fund the journalism.

A governance organized around the genuine consent of genuinely informed people rather than the manufactured compliance of populations that have been managed rather than served.

An education that produces people capable of genuine independent judgment rather than credentialed performers of institutional expectations.

A culture organized around something other than nihilism.

Around the genuine human goods that every tradition, every wisdom lineage, every honest thinker across history has identified as the foundation of a life worth living.

Truth. Community. The genuine service of others. The honest encounter with mortality. The specific dignity of the individual who has examined their own conscience and chosen to live in alignment with what it demands.

The love that is not the sentiment but the commitment. The love that shows up, that tells the truth, that refuses the comfortable lie. The love that the New Testament describes not as a feeling but as a practice. As the specific orientation toward the other that organizes every decision around what they genuinely need rather than what is convenient for you.

This is not naive.

It is the most demanding thing available to a human being.

It is the specific demand that the COVID reckoning is placing on everyone who survived it with their conscience intact and their eyes open.

Not to celebrate the fall.

To build what comes after.

XII. THE NEW WORLD AND WHAT IT COSTS

The new world will not arrive as a gift.

It will be built. By specific people, doing specific work, making specific choices that cost something real in a civilization that will not immediately reward the choices that genuine renewal requires.

It will be built by the physicians who practice medicine as though the patient in front of them is the primary obligation, regardless of what the protocol requires and regardless of what the institutional structure rewards.

By the scientists who publish what the evidence shows, including the findings that complicate the preferred narrative of every interest group that funds them.

By the journalists who pursue the story that the institutions want suppressed with the same energy they brought to every other important story in their careers.

By the educators who produce people capable of genuine inquiry rather than credentialed compliance.

By the parents who raise children who know their own minds and have been given the philosophical, historical, and psychological tools to maintain their own minds under pressure.

By the ordinary people, the most important category of all, who choose, daily, without audience, without recognition, without the validation of institutional approval, to live in alignment with what they know to be true.

This is not the revolution of the streets.

It is the revolution of the interior.

The specific, private, daily, unglamorous choice to be genuinely honest in a civilization that has organized itself around the management of truth.

To be genuinely humble in a civilization of hubris.

To be genuinely present with the suffering of others in a civilization of managed indifference.

To be genuinely alive to what matters in a civilization of distraction.

Jung called this individuation, the process of becoming genuinely, irreducibly yourself. Of differentiating from the collective mind enough to see it clearly and choose consciously what you take from it and what you refuse.

Peterson called it taking responsibility, the specific, concrete, forward-facing acceptance that what you do with what you have been given is the only measure that finally matters.

Frankl called it meaning, the active construction of significance from the raw material of what you have survived, in service of something larger than the surviving.

The Bible calls it the Kingdom.

Not the institution. Not the denomination. Not the organized religion that has, in every era, been available for capture by the same interests that capture everything else.

The Kingdom. The specific, living, daily practice of the values that the temple was supposed to represent before the money changers arrived.

Truth. Justice. Care for the injured. Genuine service. The love that costs something.

That Kingdom is built one honest person at a time.

It is being built right now.

By people whose names will not appear in the official history of this period.

By people who are doing the unglamorous, untrending, unmonetized work of genuinely serving someone who needed genuine service.

By people who are building things that will outlast them and do not require their name on them.

By people who have answered the question that this entire series has been asking.

Is this actually for them?

And whose answer, private, examined, genuine, is yes.

CODA: THE THING THAT CANNOT BE MANAGED

There is one thing that no system, however sophisticated, has ever been able to manage.

The human being who has decided to tell the truth.

Not the brave human being. The ordinary one. The frightened one. The one who feels the cost of speaking and speaks anyway. The one who is not immune to the pressure but tolerates it. The one who has found the anchor outside the consensus that the consensus cannot reach.

That person has always been the most dangerous figure available to any system organized around the management of truth.

Socrates was one. He drank the hemlock.

Semmelweis was one. He was dismissed and died in an asylum.

Solzhenitsyn was one. He spent years in the gulag.

Frankl was one. He survived Auschwitz.

The physicians who published the adverse event data during COVID are ones. Some of them lost everything.

The nurses who walked away from careers are ones. Most of them are not famous.

The ordinary people who simply said no, quietly, without drama, without an audience, are ones. History will not record most of their names.

But they exist. In every era. In every crisis. In every moment when the system requires the participation of enough ordinary people to sustain itself.

And they are enough.

Not because they can overthrow the system through force.

Because they demonstrate, visibly, that the system’s claim to universality is false.

That the unanimous room is not unanimous.

That the settled consensus is not settled.

That the cost of honesty, however real, is survivable.

And that the cost of dishonesty, the specific, accumulating, corrosive cost of living in misalignment with what you know to be true, is not.

The reckoning is coming.

The temple is falling.

And in the space that the fall creates, the most important question available to any human being who lived through this era is the one that has always determined the shape of what comes next.

What are you going to build?

Not what are you going to post.

Not what are you going to say.

Not what position are you going to take.

What are you going to build?

With your hands. With your specific skills. With your irreplaceable individual perspective on what happened and what it means and what is needed.

What are you going to build?

The new world is not waiting for a leader.

It is waiting for enough people who have answered that question honestly.

And then started.

The experiment is always running.

The reckoning is here.

The building begins now.

History will not be rewritten.

But it will bring a new world, purged of arrogance, of ego inflation, of nihilism and hedonism and the management of truth in service of power.

Awakened by love. By truth. By light. By the radical and brutal honesty that every genuine renewal has always required.

It will not be comfortable.

It will be real.

And it will be built by the people who chose, in the moment that mattered, to be genuinely themselves.

COVID was a test run. A calibration exercise. And by every measure they were testing for… it was a stunning success.

They learned that fear, delivered consistently and authoritatively enough, overrides reason. That people will surrender their movement, their businesses, their relationships, their children’s education, and their bodily autonomy if the threat is made frightening enough and the voices of dissent are silenced quickly enough.

They learned that the majority will not only comply… they will enforce compliance on each other. They will report their neighbours. Cut off their families. Demand that others submit to the same fear they have submitted to, because collective compliance is the only thing that makes individual surrender feel rational.

They learned that the media, the medical establishment, the regulatory agencies, and the technology platforms could be coordinated into a single unified voice and that a population trained to trust those voices would follow them into almost anything.

That is what was tested.

And now look at what is happening.

The economic architecture is being restructured in plain sight. Digital currencies. Centralised financial control. The systematic destruction of small businesses and independent wealth. A world where your ability to transact, to travel, to participate in society can be switched off at a server somewhere by people you never elected and cannot remove.

They told you unreasonable lies.

And society believed them out of fear.

And that fear gave them permission to do whatever they wanted to you, to your children, to your future.

COVID showed them the door was open.

What is coming next is them walking through it.

Wake up. Not to the past. To right now.

COVID changed my worldview permanently.

Not because of the virus.

Not because of the fear or the disruption or the strangeness of what we all moved through. What changed it permanently was something colder and more specific. It was watching every government on earth make the same decision, at the same moment, and hold it without deviation for six consecutive years.

The decision was this. The vaccine injured do not get an accounting.

Not one investigation. Not one parliamentary inquiry with genuine authority. Not one head of state who has stood at a podium and said what any honest leader of any democratic country should have said years ago. We owe the injured the truth. We are going to provide it. Not one.

This essay is going to tell you why. Not in the language of failure and negligence and the understandable difficulty of complex institutions navigating novel situations. In the language of what the evidence actually shows. Which is that this outcome was not produced by failure. It was produced by a system functioning as designed.

The Silence Is Coordinated. The Coordination Is Provable.

The first thing to understand is that the silence is not a coincidence of independent failures.

Prove it to yourself using the simplest available test. What does independent institutional failure look like when examined afterwards? It looks patchy. It produces variance across jurisdictions. It produces the outlier government that reviewed honestly while others did not. It produces the whistleblower whose conscience finally exceeded their institutional loyalty. It produces the parliamentary inquiry that went further than the executive intended because the parliamentarians involved had enough independence from the government’s exposure to follow the evidence where it went.

In six years, across dozens of countries, we have had none of that. Zero variance in the fundamental outcome. Every major government arrived at the same position on vaccine injury. Every major regulatory agency produced the same formulations in response to the same questions. Every mainstream media environment applied the same framing to the same categories of information. Every platform management system suppressed the same categories of content using the same justifications.

Zero outliers. Six years.

This is not what independent institutions independently failing looks like. This is what a decided outcome looks like. The mechanism of the decision may not be a single meeting with formal minutes. It operates through shared financial relationships, shared professional ecosystems, shared regulatory frameworks, and the shared understanding of people who know each other and know what they cannot afford to have examined. But the decision was made. The behaviour proves it. The behaviour always proves it.

The Architecture Was Built Before the Rollout. That Is the Point.

Here is what most people do not know, or know but have not assembled into its full implication.

Every major structural feature of the system that has protected the pharmaceutical companies and the regulatory agencies and the governments from accountability for vaccine injury was in place before the COVID vaccines were developed. Before the pandemic. Before anyone had heard of SARS-CoV-2.

The PREP Act liability protections in the United States, which granted sweeping immunity to vaccine manufacturers against injury claims under emergency conditions, were law before COVID. The emergency use authorisation framework that permitted the products to be deployed without the standard pre-market safety requirements was a standing legal mechanism. The government indemnification of manufacturers that transferred financial risk from the producing companies to the public was a standard feature of pandemic preparedness agreements. The compensation programmes with their claim processes designed to approve a small fraction of applications were pre-existing structures.

Read what this means. The system that has prevented the injured from receiving accountability was not assembled in response to an emergency. It was assembled in advance of one. The people who built it knew they were building it. They knew what it was for. They knew that a mass vaccination programme conducted under emergency authority would produce adverse events and they built, in advance, the legal and institutional architecture that would contain the accountability for those events within manageable limits.

This is premeditation. Not conspiracy in the Hollywood sense. The institutional premeditation of people who understood the risk profile of what they were planning and constructed the legal framework that would protect them from its consequences before they began.

The FDA Did Not Miss the Signals. It Managed Them.

The Food and Drug Administration is funded in majority by the pharmaceutical industry it regulates. This is not a peripheral detail. It is the central structural fact of the regulatory relationship.

Through the Prescription Drug User Fee Act and its successive reauthorisations, the pharmaceutical industry pays the FDA fees that constitute the majority of the agency’s drug approval centre budget. The regulator depends on the regulated for its operating revenue. The professional relationship between senior FDA officials and the pharmaceutical industry is so thoroughly enmeshed, through the revolving door of careers that move between the agency and the companies, through the advisory committee structures that place industry-connected scientists in positions of formal regulatory authority, through the conference and publication and grant ecosystems that are funded by the industry and that shape the intellectual frameworks of the field, that the concept of independence from the thing it is supposed to independently evaluate has become largely notional.

This is the agency that authorised COVID vaccines for children as young as six months old.

The clinical trial data for the youngest cohorts was built on sample sizes that any honest biostatistician will tell you were too small to detect adverse event rates that would have been clinically significant at population scale. The follow-up periods were too short to capture the delayed adverse events that post-market surveillance later identified. The efficacy signals in the youngest age groups were marginal in ways that the public communication did not reflect.

Internal documents produced through legal proceedings and freedom of information requests show that FDA officials had access to safety data that was not reflected in their public communications. The gap between what was held internally and what was communicated publicly is documented. Not alleged. Documented. In the agency’s own communications, produced under legal compulsion.

This is not an agency that missed the signals. This is an agency that received the signals, processed them through the incentive structure of an institution financially dependent on the industry producing the signals, and managed them rather than disclosed them.

Call this what it is. It is the regulatory capture of the institution whose entire reason for existence is to protect the public from exactly this outcome.

Pfizer Knew. The Documents Show It.

In April 2021, Pfizer submitted a pharmacovigilance report to the FDA that documented over a thousand categories of adverse events in the post-authorisation safety data. This document, covering the period from December 2020 to February 2021, contained data on adverse events reported across ninety pages of appendices.

The FDA sought a seventy-five year delay on the release of this document. Not a delay for national security reasons. Not a delay for any reason that would survive honest public scrutiny. A seventy-five year delay. The generation that received the injections would be dead before the full safety data was available to them.

A federal judge ordered accelerated release. The documents have been released in tranches and are in the public domain.

They show that Pfizer and the FDA had access, within weeks of the rollout, to a safety signal profile that was not communicated to the public receiving the product. The adverse event categories documented in those early tranches include the cardiac events, the neurological presentations, the immune dysregulation patterns that the vaccine injured have been describing in clinical settings and being dismissed from those same clinical settings for years.

The company knew. The regulatory agency knew. The people who received the product were not told.

This is not a complex claim requiring sophisticated analysis. The documents exist. They are readable. The gap between what they contain and what was communicated to the public at the time of authorisation is visible and measurable and has been measured by multiple independent researchers, journalists, and legal teams.

The people who received the product in good faith, who were told it was safe and effective and who made their decision on that basis, were not given the information that would have produced a genuinely informed decision. Their consent was obtained on the basis of a safety characterisation that the company and the regulator had data to know was incomplete.

Long COVID Is the Confession

Pay close attention to the Long COVID asymmetry because it is the system’s most visible confession.

The same governments that have maintained total silence on post-vaccination syndrome for six years have built substantial institutional infrastructure around Long COVID. Dedicated research funding. Clinical pathways. Diagnostic frameworks. Sustained, sympathetic media coverage that treats Long COVID patients as credible reporters of their own experience deserving serious medical engagement.

The science does not explain this differential treatment. The peer-reviewed literature describes overlapping symptom profiles, overlapping proposed biological mechanisms, overlapping patient populations using the same clinical language to describe the same presentations. The research community working on both conditions is in many cases examining the same biology. Spike protein persistence. Dysregulated immune response. Microclotting. Autonomic dysfunction. Neuroinflammatory processes.

The science is the same. The institutional response is completely different.

What is different is the liability. Long COVID implicates a virus. No institution has legal or financial exposure to a virus. Post-vaccination syndrome implicates a product. The product was authorised by regulatory agencies. It was mandated or coerced by governments. It was produced by companies whose contracts with those governments transferred liability for adverse events to the public through indemnification agreements. The institutional exposure runs in every direction.

The differential treatment of the two conditions is the institutional admission, delivered through behaviour rather than words, that the post-vaccination syndrome is real, that the mechanisms are understood, and that the institutional priority is the management of exposure rather than the care of the people carrying it.

The Doctors Were Silenced By Design

Medical licensing boards in multiple countries issued formal guidance during the COVID period making it a professional ethics violation to contradict public health messaging in clinical settings.

Read the full implication of this. The institutions responsible for maintaining the professional standards of medicine, whose entire reason for existence is the protection of the clinical relationship between physician and patient, issued guidance that prioritised government communication strategy over clinical honesty. That made the honest engagement of a practitioner with the clinical evidence in front of them professionally dangerous when that evidence contradicted the institutional position.

This was not informal cultural pressure. It was formalised in guidance documents. Physicians received licence reviews for publishing papers raising safety concerns that turned out to be accurate. Clinicians lost hospital privileges for treating vaccine-injured patients with protocols outside the official guidance. The professional destruction of people who were right, who had the evidence to be right, who were right at personal cost before the institutions moved to positions consistent with what those people had said, has not been reversed.

The licensing boards have not withdrawn the guidance. The physicians who were reviewed have not been restored. The framework that made clinical dissent professionally suicidal is intact.

What this produced in the clinical encounters of the vaccine injured is a specific and measurable harm. The practitioner who would under other conditions have seen what the patient was presenting with honestly was operating inside a professional environment that had made seeing it honestly too expensive. The diagnosis that would have opened the clinical pathway was not available. The patient left without it. Returned. Left again. The clinical record of the vaccine injured is not the product of medicine failing to find what was there. It is the product of medicine being structurally prevented from finding it.

This is not a system that failed its patients. It is a system that was deliberately arranged to produce this specific clinical outcome for this specific population.

The Children: The Clearest Indictment

The authorisation of COVID vaccines for children under five years old is the single most specific indictment of every institutional claim about safety and evidence.

Children in that age group had a COVID infection fatality rate that epidemiologists with no stake in the argument consistently estimated at lower than seasonal influenza. The disease posed these children minimal measurable risk. The clinical justification for deploying an emergency-authorised product, built on trial data too thin to be reliable, with follow-up periods too short to capture delayed adverse events, into an age group with minimal risk from the disease the product was supposed to prevent, was not scientific.

It was commercial and institutional. The authorisation extended the market. It extended the liability protection framework to cover a new demographic. It produced the appearance of universal public health necessity rather than the targeted protection of the vulnerable that the evidence supported.

The FDA advisory committee members who voted on the authorisation for the youngest age groups included scientists with disclosed financial relationships to the companies whose products they were voting on. The vote occurred. The authorisation was granted.

The parents who brought their children to be vaccinated were not given a risk-benefit communication that reflected the actual risk-benefit profile. They were given the safe and effective framing in contexts that made declining feel irresponsible rather than scientifically appropriate.

The children who experienced adverse events following vaccination are part of the injured population that has no diagnostic infrastructure, no compensation framework, no acknowledgment. They are young. They are still in those bodies. And the people who authorised the programme for them, with the data they had, have not answered for that authorisation.

The Compensation Programmes Are Fraud

Name it accurately.

A compensation programme designed to approve a small fraction of legitimate claims is not a compensation programme. It is a liability management instrument dressed in the language of care.

The processes are designed around the outcome. Complex claim forms that require legal expertise most claimants cannot afford. Evidentiary standards calibrated to exceed what a seriously ill person without institutional support can meet. Adjudication timelines long enough to outlast the financial endurance of people already financially destroyed by the injury they are trying to prove. Medical advisory processes staffed by reviewers whose institutional affiliations and financial relationships run in the same direction as the outcome the programme produces.

The gap between the adverse event rates visible in the safety surveillance data and the number of claims approved through the compensation programmes is not a measurement error. It is a designed outcome. The programmes were built to produce that gap. The officials who administer them know what the approval rates mean. The governments that fund them know what the approval rates mean.

The injured are paying the difference between the designed outcome and the honest one with their bodies, their finances, and their lives.

This is not a failing programme. It is a functioning one.

It is functioning exactly as it was built to function.

What This System Is

I want to be clinically precise about what the evidence requires me to call this.

This is not regulatory failure. Regulatory failure is an agency that lacked the tools, the data, or the framework to identify a problem it should have caught. What the documents show is an agency that had the data, had the framework, and managed the problem in the direction of its funding relationships rather than in the direction of the public interest.

This is not institutional incompetence. Incompetence produces variance. Incompetence produces the outlier institution that gets it right by accident. What we have is uniform, sustained, coordinated protection of the same interests across the same institutions in the same direction for six years.

This is not a communication failure. Communication failures produce corrections when the gap between the communicated position and the documented record is made visible. The documented record is visible. The freedom of information releases are in the public domain. The legal disclosures are available. The gap has been made visible repeatedly. The communications have not corrected. They have continued.

What this is, named with the precision the evidence requires, is the organised protection by interconnected institutions of their shared financial and legal interests at the expense of the people those institutions were created to serve. It is the operation of a system in which the regulatory apparatus, the pharmaceutical companies, the government ministries, the media, and the platform infrastructure function as a coordinated protection mechanism for the liability produced by a mass medical intervention that caused serious harm at a scale the system was built to contain.

This system has names in it. The people who built the pre-existing liability architecture. The officials who managed the safety signals. The licensing board members who drafted the guidance that silenced the clinicians. The editorial board members who declined the papers. The platform policy teams who processed the suppression directives. The committee members who voted on the authorisations with disclosed financial relationships to the authorised products.

The system has names in it. And the names have not been called to account.

The Injured Are Still Waiting

On the other side of the wall the system built, the people who trusted what they were told are navigating the consequences of what the documents show they were not told.

Without diagnostic codes in most countries. Without the clinical infrastructure that would make their condition treatable within the systems that caused it. Without the compensation that the injury and the abandonment of the injury has produced would require. Without the acknowledgment from a single institution with the authority to give it that what happened to their bodies was real and was known and was managed rather than disclosed.

They were considered acceptable losses before the fact. They became inconvenient liabilities after it. The calculus was made before they had any knowledge that a calculus was being made.

And the system that made the calculus is still running.

Still funding itself through the same industry relationships. Still staffing itself through the same revolving door. Still managing the same safety signals in the same direction. Still processing the same compensation claims toward the same designed outcome. Still issuing the same guidance to the same licensing boards that are still shaping the same clinical encounters in which the same injured patients are still leaving without what they came for.

The silence of world leaders on vaccine injury is not the behaviour of people managing an honest disagreement about evidence.

It is the behaviour of people who built a system, who know what the system built, who know what the system is still producing, and who have made the calculation that the cost of saying so remains higher than the cost of what the silence is doing to the people it is doing it to.

That calculation is the answer.

It has always been the answer.

And the people whose bodies are the evidence of it are still waiting for a single person with the authority to matter to say so.

The system is documented. The documents are public. The gap between the documented record and the official account is measurable. Name it. Share it. The injured are still on the other side of the wall. The least the rest of us can do is refuse to pretend the wall is not there.

There is a prayer I carry that I cannot always name.

It surfaces in the early morning, before the noise begins, before the notifications and the metrics and the relentless machinery of a world that has decided the highest purpose of a human being is to be productive, trackable, and monetised. It surfaces in the silence between heartbeats, in the space behind the eyes where something older than thought still knows what it is.

The prayer is simple.

Let us build something again.

Not what we have inherited. Not the vertically integrated systems of control dressed in the language of convenience and safety. Not the centralised architectures of extraction that have learned to speak the dialect of care while reducing everything alive to a data point, a resource, a manageable variable in an equation no one asked us to be part of.

Something else.

Something older and more radical and more true.

A world where God, nature, human beings, and animals are not resources to be optimised but centres of gravity around which everything else is organised. A world where the sacred is not sequestered into one hour on Sunday morning but woven into the fabric of daily life, into how we grow food and raise children and bury our dead and greet our neighbours and sit beneath the open sky and remember, with the full force of our embodied consciousness, what we actually are.

We have forgotten.

That is the great catastrophe beneath all the other catastrophes. Not the corruption of our institutions, though they are corrupt. Not the degradation of the environment, though it is degraded. Not the erosion of civil liberties or the pharmaceutical capture of medicine or the algorithmic colonisation of the mind, though all of these are real and all of them matter.

The deepest wound is the forgetting.

The forgetting of what we are made of.

In the 1970s, a German biophysicist named Fritz-Albert Popp turned his instruments toward living tissue and found what the mystics had been trying to say for three thousand years.

We emit light.

Not metaphorically. Not poetically. Measurably, verifiably, repeatedly. Every living cell in the human body radiates coherent photons, what Popp called biophotons, at intensities too subtle for the naked eye but unmistakable to instruments calibrated for the purpose. And these emissions are not noise, not biological exhaust, not the meaningless byproduct of metabolic heat. They are communication. They carry information. They coordinate the symphonic complexity of a biological system that executes more simultaneous operations per second than every computer network humanity has ever constructed, combined.

We are not just receivers of light.

We are sources of it.

The frequencies we carry respond to the frequencies of the living world around us. The earth beneath bare feet. The full-spectrum coherence of morning sunlight arriving unfiltered through open air. The presence of water moving as nature intended water to move, structured, vital, carrying its own electromagnetic memory. The proximity of other living beings vibrating at frequencies that resonate, that harmonise, that remind the body of its own intelligence.

This is why the forest heals. This is why the ocean resets something fundamental. This is why isolation in artificial environments, bathed in flicker and blue spectrum and electromagnetic noise, slowly dismantles the coherence of the system. The body knows the difference between a living frequency and a managed simulation of one. It always has.

The science is young only in its measurement. The truth it is pointing toward is ancient.

Two thousand years ago, a man stood in the temple courts of Jerusalem and made a statement that has not diminished in clarity in the twenty centuries since it was uttered.

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

The tradition has sometimes reduced this to metaphor. A beautiful image. An encouraging figure of speech for people who needed comfort in difficult times.

But read it again without that reduction.

Read it as Popp might read it. As a physicist who has watched coherent light emerge from living tissue and understood that this is not accidental, that light is not decorative but constitutive, not a sign of life but its very mechanism.

The source of all coherent energy in the universe took human form and said: I am light. Follow this light and you will have life, real life, zoe, the Greek word for the animating principle of existence itself, not mere biological survival but the full-voltage aliveness of a being who knows what it is.

And then, in the Sermon on the Mount, he turned and said it about us.

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

Not: you reflect my light. Not: you are illuminated by my light. You are the light. The same word. The same ontological category. This was not a compliment offered to boost morale in a frightened crowd. This was a declaration of identity, a statement about what human beings are made of at the level where physics and theology are no longer separate disciplines but two vocabularies struggling toward the same unspeakable truth.

In the Gospel of Thomas, a text that carries teachings whose antiquity rivals the canonical gospels, this same voice speaks with a clarity that strips away every institutional layer:

There is light within a person of light, and the light shines on the whole world. If a person does not shine, there is darkness.

If a person does not shine.

Not if the institution fails. Not if the theology is incorrect. Not if the doctrine is improperly administered by the appropriate authorities.

*If the person does not shine.*

The responsibility is intimate. The light is interior. It is already there, already present, already constitutive of the being in question. The only way darkness wins is if the person who carries the light forgets that they carry it, or allows something external to convince them that the light was never theirs to begin with, that it belongs to an intermediary, an institution, a system, a screen.

I am the light that is over all things.

And then the most extraordinary line in all of ancient literature:

Split a piece of wood, and I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there.

Not in the temple. Not in the hierarchy. Not in the sanctioned channels of religious administration.

In the wood. In the stone. In the unglamorous materiality of the living world that has not yet been abstracted into a database or optimised into a product.

This is not pantheism as a philosophy. This is an invitation to look, actually look, at the world you are already living in and see what has always been there, present in every ordinary surface, waiting not for a mystical experience but for simple attention.

The kingdom of God is within you.

Luke 17:21. The context matters. The Pharisees have asked Jesus when the kingdom of God is coming. They are waiting for an event. A visible transformation. An external arrival of divine order that will resolve the chaos and establish the righteous structure they believe God intends for history.

Jesus does not correct the timing of their expectation.

He corrects the location.

You are looking outward. You will not find it there. Not because the outward world is irrelevant, but because you are searching for an arrival of something that has already come, that is already present, that is already alive in the one place you have not thought to look.

Within you.

The Gospel of Mary Magdalene extends this with a precision that feels almost urgent, as though the voice behind it knows exactly what the centuries to come will attempt:

Acquire my peace within yourselves. Be on your guard so that no one deceives you by saying, ‘Look over here!’ or ‘Look over there!’ For the child of true Humanity exists within you. Follow it! Those who search for it will find it.

Be on your guard.

Those four words carry the weight of every age in which external authority has positioned itself between a human being and their own interior knowing. Every system that has said: your access to truth is mediated through us. Your healing comes through our institutions. Your salvation requires our approval. Your identity is defined by your compliance with our categories.

Be on your guard.

Not paranoid. Not reactionary. Not withdrawn from community or relationship or the legitimate goods that social structures can provide. But clear-eyed about the fundamental architecture of the self, that the light within you is not an institutional resource to be distributed at the discretion of those who have appointed themselves its custodians. It is yours. It was placed there. It is, in the deepest sense, what you are.

And those who search for it will find it.

This is the most important promise in the paragraph. Not that the lucky will find it. Not that the theologically correct will find it. Not that those who have the right credentials or the approved experiences or the sufficient purity will find it.

Those who search.

The searching itself is the qualification.

The Essene Gospel of Peace carries a line that stops me every time I encounter it:

All living things are nearer to God than the scriptures which are without life. God so made life and all living things that they might by the everliving word teach the laws of the true God to man.

The living world is itself a scripture.

Not a supplement to the written texts. Not an illustration of truths more properly located in authorised documents. The primary text. The original revelation. The one that was here before the first word was committed to parchment and will remain when the last archive has crumbled into the earth that was never not speaking.

The tree that has stood for three hundred years is teaching something.

The soil that transforms death into food is teaching something.

The migration of birds navigating by magnetic fields they perceive with organs science is only beginning to understand, moving across continents by instincts older than human consciousness, is teaching something.

The stream that has cut its particular channel through its particular valley across thousands of years of particular weather and particular stone is teaching something.

We have built a civilisation premised on the idea that nature is a resource to be managed and a problem to be solved. That the human project is to transcend the limitations of the biological and the seasonal and the embodied and achieve something cleaner, more controlled, more efficient.

And in doing so we have cut ourselves off from the primary scripture.

We have silenced the teacher in order to replace the lesson with a syllabus of our own design.

I want to be precise about what I am not saying.

I am not saying technology is evil. I am not saying institutions are inherently corrupt or that every structure of collective organisation is a mechanism of control. I am not calling for a return to some pre-modern idyll that existed, if it existed at all, in conditions most of us would not survive for three months.

I am saying something more specific and more demanding.

I am saying that we have organised the dominant institutions of our civilisation around assumptions about human beings that are not true. That we are primarily economic actors whose highest function is productive consumption. That our inner lives are epiphenomenal, irrelevant to the real business of measurable outcomes. That the living world is raw material whose value is exhausted by its utility. That centralised management of complex systems produces better outcomes than the distributed intelligence of communities of sovereign individuals embedded in particular places and particular relationships.

These assumptions are not only philosophically impoverished.

They are producing the catastrophe we are living through.

And the antidote is not better technology deployed in service of the same assumptions. The antidote is a different account of what human beings are, one grounded simultaneously in the best of what the scientific tradition has discovered and the deepest of what the wisdom traditions have always known.

We are beings of light, in the measurable, biophotonic sense that Popp documented. We are carriers of a frequency that no algorithm can replicate because it emerges from the irreducible particularity of a specific body embedded in a specific place, shaped by a specific history, animated by something that has not yet yielded its secrets to any instrument.

We are children of God, in the theological sense that two thousand years of contemplative tradition across every culture that has taken the interior life seriously have pointed toward, not as a consoling fiction for the frightened but as the closest available approximation of what is actually encountered when a human being goes deep enough into their own experience to find what is there at the bottom of it.

And these two descriptions are, at the level where language reaches its limit and must gesture rather than name, saying the same thing.

There is something in us that is light.

There is something in us that is divine.

There is something in us that is connected to every other living thing by bonds more fundamental than those of any social contract or economic arrangement or digital network ever devised.

And that something cannot be managed. It cannot be extracted. It cannot be patented or monetised or reduced to a variable in someone else’s equation.

It can only be lived.

Or forgotten.

We have forgotten, most of us, most of the time.

Not completely. Not permanently. The forgetting is never total, which is why beauty still stops us in our tracks, why music still opens something that should by rights have been sealed shut by now, why the first cry of a newborn still breaks through every layer of cynicism we have constructed to protect ourselves from the rawness of being alive.

The light is not extinguished.

It is occluded. Covered by accumulation. By the weight of a culture that does not believe in it and a civilisation that has no use for it and an economy that cannot account for it.

But covered is not the same as gone.

And this is where the prayer I carry becomes something more than a prayer. It becomes a position. A commitment. A refusal to accept the managed reduction as the final verdict on what human life is and can be.

It is still possible to build something else.

Not instead of what exists, not by burning it down or walking away from the responsibilities that bind us to the people and places we have chosen, but within and alongside and gradually replacing the assumptions that have made the current arrangement so sterile and so lonely and so ill.

Communities organised around the truth of what human beings are. Economies that begin with the dignity of the person and the health of the living world and work outward from there, rather than beginning with the extraction of value and working backward to justify what gets left behind. Medicine that takes seriously the light within the body and asks what the body needs in order to sustain and strengthen that coherence, rather than treating the body as a collection of malfunctioning parts to be pharmaceutically corrected.

Schools that teach children what they are before they teach them what they should produce.

Churches that mean what they say when they say the kingdom of God is within you.

Farms that understand themselves as participants in a living system rather than operators of an extraction mechanism.

Cities that are designed around the flourishing of persons rather than the efficiency of throughput.

This is not utopia. Utopia is a fantasy about a final state in which the problem of human imperfection has been permanently resolved. This is not that. This is something more modest and more durable, the ongoing project of organising human life around true things rather than convenient lies, of building institutions that serve the light in people rather than obscuring it, of refusing, as individuals and communities, to cooperate with the reduction.

There is a world worth fighting for.

I believe that with a completeness that surprises me when I actually test it against the evidence, against the weight of what has been done and is being done and continues to be done to the living world and to the inner life of the human person. Against the accumulated grief of a civilisation that has lost the thread and does not always seem to know that it has lost it.

And yet.

The biophotons are still there, still emitting from every living cell, still communicating in a language older than any spoken tongue. The morning light is still full-spectrum and still coherent and still arriving as it has arrived every morning since the first morning, carrying the same invitation to wake. The child of true Humanity, as Mary Magdalene’s Jesus names it, is still within you, still waiting to be found, still responding to the searching with the promise that those who search will find.

The kingdom is still within.

The light is still in the wood and in the stone.

And somewhere, in the silence before the noise begins, you still know what you are.

That knowing is the inheritance that nothing done to you can permanently erase.

That knowing is the ground on which the world worth building must be built.

May God bless you.

And peace be with you.

The peace that the world did not give and therefore cannot take away.

The peace that lives precisely where Christ said it lives.

Within you.

Acquire my peace within yourselves.

Not the villain. Not the captured institution. Not the corrupted official.

The helper who has not examined their shadow.

The person whose stated motivation is service but whose actual motivation, operating below the level of conscious awareness, is something else. The hunger for recognition.

The need to be the person who knows what others do not. The financial incentive that has quietly become the primary shaper of what gets said, what gets left unsaid, and who gets the most visible platform.

Jung was clinical about what the unexamined shadow in the helper produces.

It produces the helper who needs the helped to remain helpless. Because the resolution of the suffering would dissolve the identity the suffering sustains.

It produces the organization whose success is measured by its own expansion rather than by genuine improvement in the condition of the people it claimed to serve.

It produces the physician-influencer whose injured patient count has become a marketing metric as much as a clinical reality. The advocacy group whose fundraising email arrives before the clinical guidance does. The conference where speakers’ fees are negotiated before treatment protocols are discussed.

The movement built to expose institutional self-interest has, in significant portions, developed its own institutional self-interest.

This is not a scandal. It is a pattern.

And it is perfectly predicted by the psychology of the unexamined shadow.

The shadow does not check the moral credentials of its host before it begins operating.

It simply operates. Into every organization, every platform, every fundraising structure, every piece of content that the unexamined helper produces.

Until the examination happens.

Know your shadow. Specifically. Not abstractly.

Ask what this gives you. What you would lose if the cause you serve succeeded entirely and your involvement in it was no longer needed.

Ask what you would feel if someone else resolved the problem you have built your identity around solving.

The answers to those questions are where the shadow lives.

And the helper who has not looked there is not safe for the people trusting them.

They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. Peace, peace, they say, when there is no peace.

He said it to a priestly and political class that had made a professional arrangement with comfortable falsehood. That had decided the cost of honest diagnosis exceeded the cost of managed reassurance. That had looked at the suffering of the people it was supposed to serve and calculated, carefully, that acknowledgment was more dangerous than silence.

He was imprisoned for it. His scroll was burned by the king. And the thing he said would happen, happened. Because reality does not negotiate with the institutional position. It simply arrives.

I keep returning to Jeremiah not because I am looking for historical validation of a political position. I return to him because he described, with a precision that feels almost clinical, the exact structure of what I have been watching for six years. A governing class that has seen the wound. That knows the wound is serious. That has chosen, collectively and deliberately, to dress it as though it were not.

COVID changed something in me that cannot be unchanged. And this is the thing that changed it.

The Silence That Requires Explanation

Nearly six years since the rollout began. Not one head of state has stood before their people and said: some of you were harmed, we know it, and you deserve an honest accounting. Not one parliamentary inquiry with genuine authority. Not one compensation framework built on the actual scale of injury. The vaccine injured remain without diagnostic codes in most countries. Without legal recourse. Without the most basic institutional acknowledgment that what happened to their bodies was real.

I want to be precise about why this requires explanation.

Genuine public health emergencies produce genuine review. That is what accountable institutions do. They ask what worked, what did not, who was harmed and how. They produce findings that are uncomfortable because the discomfort is the point. The discomfort is how trust gets rebuilt and how the conditions that caused the harm get reformed.

What we have is a wall. And on the other side of that wall, people who lost careers for raising questions that turned out to be legitimate. People whose governments promoted Long COVID with full institutional weight while refusing to ask a single honest question about overlapping presentations in the vaccine injured. The same symptoms. The same mechanisms proposed in the peer-reviewed literature. The convenient frame that points in every direction except at the product.

The coordination is what tells you the most. Individual negligence looks different from this. It is patchy. Inconsistent. Individual negligence produces the outlier, the whistleblower, the one government whose political cost of silence finally exceeds the cost of honesty. What we have is universal. And universality of this kind does not emerge from independent actors independently deciding to do nothing.

It is decided.

Pharaoh’s Calculation

There is a pattern in Exodus that is easy to miss if you read it only as liberation narrative.

Pharaoh does not begin as a monster. He begins as an administrator facing a perceived threat to the stability of a system he is responsible for maintaining. The initial decisions are bureaucratic. The kind that institutional leaders make every day when the acknowledgment of a problem would require restructuring the system that has made them powerful.

What the text tracks, with almost clinical precision, is the progressive hardening. Each refusal to acknowledge the truth produces a condition in which the next acknowledgment becomes harder. The cost of honesty compounds with each deferral. Until the man who might have chosen differently early in the sequence is no longer capable of choosing differently at all. Not because he was always that man. Because the accumulated weight of prior choices has made him into that man.

This is what six years of institutional silence on vaccine injury looks like to me. Not a single dramatic decision by irredeemably corrupt people. A sequence of deferrals, each making the next acknowledgment more costly, until the institutions involved are no longer capable of the honesty that would have been possible, and painful, at the beginning.

Pharaoh lost everything in the end. Not because God was cruel. Because reality, deferred long enough, does not soften. It concentrates.

The people in the path of that concentration were not the ones who made the choices.

They never are.

The Watchmen Who Were Silenced

Ezekiel 33 describes the role of the watchman with a precision that I cannot read in this moment without thinking of the doctors and scientists who raised early warnings.

The watchman sees the danger coming. If he sounds the warning and the people do not listen, their blood is on their own hands. But if he sees the danger and does not sound it, and the people are harmed, their blood is required from the watchman’s hand. The obligation is not to be believed. It is to speak.

The people who sounded the warnings during COVID fulfilled the obligation of the watchman. The doctors who raised concerns about safety signals. The scientists who maintained that the lab leak hypothesis warranted serious investigation. The clinicians who identified overlapping presentations between Long COVID and post-vaccination syndrome and said so publicly. The public health officials who questioned the evidence base for specific mandates. Many of them knew, when they spoke, what it would cost them. They spoke anyway. Because the obligation to the people in their care exceeded the obligation to their own professional safety.

They were treated by the institutional machinery as threats rather than watchmen. Medical licensing boards in multiple countries produced formal guidance making it an ethical violation to contradict public health messaging regardless of clinical evidence. This was not subtle pressure. It was a formal mechanism for the suppression of professional judgment, and it worked exactly as designed.

The positions these doctors and scientists held, the myocarditis risk in young males, the limited effectiveness against transmission, the natural immunity data, the age-stratified risk profile that should have shaped a differentiated approach from the beginning, have since been quietly incorporated into the evolving institutional understanding without attribution. The positions are now acceptable. The people who held them first, at personal cost, remain professionally unrehabilitiated in almost every case.

That is not an oversight. It is the intended outcome of the suppression. Because rehabilitation would require an accounting of what was suppressed and why.

The Particular Cruelty of Being Unseen

The ninth commandment is usually understood as a prohibition on lying in legal proceedings. Its scope in the broader tradition is wider.

It covers the systematic misrepresentation of another person’s reality. The institutional denial of what someone has experienced. The use of authority to make a true thing unsayable. The deployment of official credibility to replace a person’s honest account of their own life with a version that serves the interests of the people controlling the account.

Every doctor who told a vaccine-injured patient that their symptoms were unrelated, knowing the claim was not supported by the evidence, bore false witness against that patient. Every regulatory communication that described the safety profile as well-characterised when post-market surveillance data showed otherwise bore false witness against the population it was addressing. Every platform that removed the testimony of injured people because it contradicted the official position bore false witness against the people whose testimony it removed.

There is a particular cruelty in what this does to the injured that goes beyond the original physical harm.

It is not just that they are uncompensated. It is that the silence communicates something to them about their value. That they were considered acceptable losses before the fact, and inconvenient liabilities after it. That the calculus was made, and they lost. The psychological cost of that message, delivered not once but every single day through continued institutional indifference, is its own injury layered on top of the physical one.

The vaccine injured are not a political constituency to be managed. They are people. They belong to the category the Hebrew tradition calls the anawim. The poor, the afflicted, the ones stripped of the ordinary protections that social position provides. The ones who have nowhere to go except forward, because every institution has failed them or turned against them.

The Psalms return to them constantly. Not with pity. With a specific insistence that their cause is not forgotten. Psalm 10: *You, God, see the trouble of the afflicted. You consider their grief and take it in hand.*

I am not making a simple theological argument. I am saying something about the moral weight that the tradition places on these specific people. The powerful who created the anawim are visible in that tradition too. Their visibility is not flattering. And it is permanent.

## What History Does Eventually

This pattern is not new. What is new is its scale.

The contaminated blood scandal in Britain ran for decades. The people responsible maintained institutional positions, produced reassuring public statements, dismissed the concerns of the affected. The honest accounting came sixty years later, in a public inquiry that used the word cover-up without qualification, that named the institutional decisions as conscious choices made by people who understood what they were choosing.

Sixty years.

Ignaz Semmelweis identified in the 1840s that hand-washing by doctors before delivering babies would dramatically reduce maternal deaths. He had clear, consistent, reproducible data. The medical establishment of his time rejected him. Not because the data was weak. Because accepting it meant accepting that doctors had been killing the patients they were supposed to protect.

He died professionally destroyed, before germ theory vindicated everything he had said. Mothers died in the interval. Not because the truth was unavailable. Because the people with the authority to act on it found the truth more threatening than the deaths.

Proverbs 14 puts it in a sentence: *There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.*

The way that appeared right to every institutional actor involved in this story was the protection of its own authority and its own liability position. That is the way they chose. And the people who will pay for that choice are, as they always are, the ones with the least protection from what the institutions cannot bring themselves to honestly name.

The architecture of concealment is not as permanent as it presents itself.

History agrees. Every time. The question is only how many people are harmed in the interval between the concealment and its collapse.

The Children Are Forming Their Conclusions

There is a consequence to all of this that operates on a longer timeline and receives almost no serious attention.

The children of the vaccine injured are watching.

They are watching a person they love fight for recognition from systems that will not give it. They are watching their parent attend appointments that produce nothing. Read research late at night trying to understand what happened to their body because no clinician has provided an honest explanation. Participate in communities of similarly injured people because the medical system has offered nowhere else to go.

They are watching their parent be disbelieved at institutional scale. Systematically, repeatedly, by the same governments that compelled or pressured the injection and now find the consequences inconvenient to acknowledge.

A child who watches that learns something that no curriculum will override. They learn that the state’s obligation to protect them is conditional. That the language of care and the exercise of genuine care are separable. That the institutions responsible for their welfare have demonstrated, under conditions that mattered, which one they prioritise when the two come apart.

That lesson is forming political instincts in a generation that will be governing within twenty years.

Luke 18 opens with a parable about a widow and an unjust judge. The widow has a legitimate grievance. She comes before the judge repeatedly. He ignores her. She does not stop coming. And eventually, not because the judge has changed, but because her persistence has made his continued inaction more costly than acting, he grants what she is owed.

Jesus tells the parable to make a point about persistence in prayer. But the human mechanics of it are precise in a way that reaches beyond the theological application.

The vaccine injured are that widow. They have a legitimate grievance before judges who have demonstrated no fear of consequence and no genuine concern for their welfare. They keep coming. Because the alternative is to accept that what happened to them does not matter. And they cannot accept that. Because it is not true.

The parable does not promise a just judge. It promises that persistence in the face of an unjust one is not futile.

The Lament That Refuses Silence

What I hold onto, at the end of all of this, is not primarily anger. Anger was present. It has not disappeared. But it is not what remains most strongly.

What remains is something closer to what the tradition calls lament. The honest, unflinching naming of what has been lost and what has been done and what has not been made right. The refusal to call the wound healed when it has not been healed. The refusal to perform peace where there is no peace.

Lament in the biblical tradition is not despair. It is the opposite of despair. It is the insistence that the truth of what happened matters enough to be spoken. That the people who were harmed are visible enough to be grieved for. That the accounting, deferred and avoided and managed as it has been, remains outstanding and will not be quietly retired by the passage of time or the institutional preference for its own comfort.

The book of Lamentations sits in the canon not as an embarrassment to be explained away but as an act of moral witness. This happened. These people suffered. The institutions that should have protected them failed them. We are going to say so, clearly, for as long as it needs to be said.

That is what the vaccine injured deserve. Not eventually. Now.

Not from the institutions that harmed them. From the rest of us who are watching.

The tradition is clear about what it means to walk past the wounded person on the road and find a reason to keep walking. It is equally clear about what it means to stop.

We are still being asked to choose.

The universal silence of world leaders on vaccine injury is not the behaviour of people managing an honest disagreement about evidence.

It is the behaviour of people who have made a collective calculation that the cost of telling the truth now exceeds the cost of never telling it.

Jeremiah named that calculation in the sixth century before Christ. Ezekiel named the obligation of the watchman. The Psalmist named the moral weight of the abandoned and afflicted. History named, eventually and at great cost, every prior version of what is being named here.

The silence is the answer.

It always has been.

And it is on the record now, written not in any document that can be redacted or any communication that can be managed, but in the six-year behaviour of every major government on earth.

That record does not expire.

And the people it indicts will not be the last ones to read it.

He was trying to understand something that had just killed millions of people: how ordinary human beings, in the presence of a crowd and a leader, behaved in ways they would never have chosen as individuals.

His answer was both precise and disturbing.

In a group, the ego ideal, the internal standard against which the individual measures themselves, is replaced by an external figure. The leader.

The group member does not reason about the leader’s authority. They feel it. The leader occupies the psychological position of the idealized parent, the all-knowing, all-protecting figure who relieves the group member of the anxiety of individual judgment.

The group coheres by two mechanisms: the shared love of the leader and the shared hatred of the designated enemy.

Remove either, and the group dissolves.

Freud observed that the group member in this state is not diminished in their feeling of importance. They are enhanced. They feel stronger, more certain, more righteous, and more capable of action than they would as individuals.

Because they have given their Ego Ideal to the leader, they experience the leader’s authority as their own.

The public health leader who emerged in early 2020 occupied a precise Freudian position. They were authoritative, calming, present. They performed certainty at the moment when certainty was most desperately needed.

The group that formed around them did not form through reasoning. It formed through the psychological mechanism Freud described: the shared placement of the Ego Ideal in the leader’s figure.

Which is why challenging the leader felt like a personal attack to the group members. Their Ego Ideal was invested in the leader. An attack on the leader was an attack on the structure that was holding their anxiety together.

And why the designated enemy, the unvaccinated, the questioning scientist, the dissenting physician, was experienced with such intensity.

They were threatening the cohesion of the group by withdrawing from the shared Ego Ideal placement. Their refusal to idealize the leader was structurally intolerable.

Freud’s prescription is the same one every depth psychologist offers.

Withdraw the projection. Reclaim the Ego Ideal.

Not with contempt for what you needed during a frightening time.

With the honest recognition that the leader was always a person. With limitations. With interests. With the capacity for error.

And that the safety that seemed to come from the idealization never actually came from the leader.

It was yours all along.

We’re seeing disturbing trends. Increased cancers, immunosuppression, lymphocytopenia – our immune systems are being degraded. And yet, our health agencies refuse to face the obvious. They pretend this is all perfectly normal. They don’t want you to question anything. But the signs are there, and they’re terrifying.

Regulators, from the EMA to Health Canada, claim these contaminants don’t matter, aren’t functional, aren’t an issue. But they know. Internal emails reveal their panic, their requests for Pfizer to clean up its DNA, only to be met with excuses. Pfizer doesn’t even have a proper test to measure DNA length in these vials. They’re giving us half-truths and lies.

The science is unequivocal: DNA fragments, in lipid nanoparticles, can integrate into human genomes. Chronic exposure to foreign DNA, floating in the cytosol, triggers a cascade of immune responses that can lead to cancer. This isn’t just my opinion; it’s backed by literature, and it’s blatantly ignored by regulatory agencies.

We’ve heard excuse after excuse from regulators. “It’s too little to matter,” “It won’t enter cells,” “It won’t reach the nucleus.” Each claim has fallen apart. They retreat at every challenge, changing the story to suit their agenda. The fact is, they know the truth, but they won’t admit it. It’s a deliberate cover-up on a scale we’ve never seen before.

This is no longer about health. This is about power, control, and deceit. The regulators are defending their sponsors, rewriting guidelines, hiding behind blacked-out documents. They’ve crossed a line. This isn’t just a scandal. This is RICO territory. This is collusion, manipulation, a violation of our basic rights and trust.

To everyone reading this: our health agencies have abandoned us. They’re complicit in the greatest violation of medical ethics in modern history. Do not trust their lies. Demand transparency. Refuse to be silenced. We must hold every single one of these actors accountable. This isn’t just a mistake; it’s a crime against humanity.

I am going to tell you what happened over the last five years, looking at the COVID story alone. Not the version the institutions responsible for it would prefer you to have. The version the primary sources, read without the institutional framing designed to prevent you from reading them, produce.

Nothing in this essay requires you to believe more than the documents show. The documents show enough.

Before It Began

The story does not start in December 2019. It starts earlier.

Beginning no later than 2014, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, directed by Anthony Fauci, awarded grants to EcoHealth Alliance, a non-governmental organisation led by Peter Daszak. Those grants funded research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. The research involved taking bat coronaviruses and manipulating them to study their potential for human infection.

The specific term for this category of research is gain of function. It means enhancing the transmissibility or pathogenicity of a pathogen. The NIH defines it. The NIH funded it. The NIH subsequently denied funding it. Then the NIH acknowledged funding it.

In October 2021, NIH Principal Deputy Director Lawrence Tabak wrote to Congress acknowledging that the EcoHealth Alliance grant had resulted in bat coronaviruses with enhanced growth in human cells compared to the parent virus and that this met the definition of enhanced potential pandemic pathogen research. The original denial was followed by the acknowledgment. The acknowledgment received a fraction of the coverage the denial produced.

The Wuhan Institute of Virology is one of the most sophisticated coronavirus research facilities in the world. It has a BSL-4 laboratory. It is located in the city of Wuhan, China. It was funded in part by the American government to conduct gain of function research on bat coronaviruses. A novel respiratory coronavirus pandemic emerged from that city in late 2019.

The United States was funding, in the city where the pandemic originated, the precise category of research most likely to have produced it. This is not a controversial statement. It is the documented funding record.

The Origin: What the Emails Show

In January 2020, as the novel coronavirus was spreading and its origin was an open question, several of the world's most prominent virologists were communicating privately about what the genome sequence suggested.

On January 31, 2020, Kristian Andersen of the Scripps Research Institute wrote to Anthony Fauci. His email stated that the genome was inconsistent with expectations from evolutionary theory. That some features of the virus looked potentially engineered. That he and his colleagues found the virus unusual. That the features looked potentially engineered.

The email is in the public domain. It was released through a Freedom of Information Act request by BuzzFeed News. It is readable by anyone who looks for it.

On February 1, 2020, a call was convened. Fauci participated. Francis Collins, director of the NIH, participated. Jeremy Farrar of the Wellcome Trust participated. The virologists who had been privately expressing concern participated.

Jeremy Farrar subsequently invoked an obligation under the UK Official Secrets Act in response to a parliamentary request for information about the call. This is an unusual application of national security secrecy provisions to a scientific discussion about a virus's evolutionary origin.

Twelve days after Andersen wrote that the virus looked potentially engineered, he was the lead author of a paper published in Nature Medicine titled The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2. The paper concluded that laboratory engineering was not plausible. That a natural origin was the most convincing explanation. That the lab origin hypothesis was not scientifically credible.

There is no acknowledgment in the paper that its lead author had recently held the opposite private view. No disclosure of the call convened by the director of the funding agency whose grants supported EcoHealth Alliance's work at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. No disclosure of the emails in which the authors communicated assessments contradicting the conclusions they were about to publish.

Particularly explosive is a passage in which the platforms are asked to disclose changes to their terms of service and moderation practices – explicitly including the promotion and demotion of content, i.e. algorithmic up- or down-ranking. This makes it clear: the aim was not merely an exchange of information, but active steering of visibility and reach of political content.

The political dimension is openly acknowledged. The sender assures that she is acting with the approval of the Vice-President and with the knowledge of the Commission President. This is therefore not an individual initiative, but executive-coordinated policy at EU level. The imposed time pressure underscores the operational nature: the platforms were expected to deliver within a few days.

What this document reveals is the remodelling of the digital public sphere: state authorities define problem narratives, private corporations implement them via algorithms – without democratic debate, without transparency, without legal oversight. The immune dysregulation. The body that responds to ordinary exposures in extraordinary ways. The infections that the before-self shook off in days and that now become events requiring weeks of management.

These are not symptoms that the before-self would have dismissed as manageable inconvenience. They are the material of a life. And they were produced by something the before-self was told, with institutional authority and public confidence, was safe and well-understood and beneficial without meaningful qualification.

The before-self no longer exists in the same form.

And the institutions that produced the transition have not stood before the person living inside its consequences and said what they knew, what they chose, and what they understand now about what the choosing cost.

The Wall

The vaccine injured did not fail the system. The system failed them. And it was not an accident.

The word accident matters here. Accidents produce variance. They are inconsistent across jurisdictions. They generate internal pressure toward correction. They produce the outlier, the whistleblower, the institution that breaks from the rest when the cost of silence finally exceeds the cost of honesty.

What the vaccine injured have encountered is not that.

What they have encountered is a system that has functioned with extraordinary consistency, across every jurisdiction and every institutional layer simultaneously, to produce a specific outcome. Their invisibility.

The diagnostic codes that do not exist are not administrative oversight. They are the administrative expression of a decision that the injured population should not be countable. Countable means documentable. Documentable means researchable. Researchable means the scale becomes visible. And the scale, made visible, produces the legal and political exposure that the institutions responsible for authorising, promoting, and in many cases mandating the product cannot afford to absorb.

The compensation frameworks that process so few claims so slowly are not the product of bureaucratic overwhelm. They are the product of deliberate design built with the outcome already determined. The claim forms are complex enough to deter the unrepresented. The evidentiary standards are calibrated to produce the number the institutions need rather than the number the biological reality would produce if the process were honest. The adjudication timelines are long enough to outlast the financial resources of people who are already financially destroyed by the injury they are seeking recognition for.

Not one country has produced an honest count of the vaccine injured. This is the fact that most clearly demonstrates the decision behind the silence. Counting is not difficult. It requires diagnostic codes, research programmes, and compensation frameworks designed to find what they should be finding. The difficulty is not technical. The difficulty is that the honest count would produce a number the institutions cannot publish.

So the honest count is not being done.

And the people it would find are living inside the consequences of that decision.

The Gaslighting

There is a harm that sits on top of the physical injury and in many cases exceeds it in the psychological toll it takes. It does not have a widely used name. It should.

The vaccine injured person goes to their doctor. The doctor, operating inside a framework that has no diagnostic category for what they are describing, finds nothing. Or finds something attributable to something else. The person goes back. And again. Each visit produces the same outcome. Not from cruelty, in most cases. From a clinical environment in which the honest answer, this presentation is consistent with what thousands of others are reporting following the same product, cannot be said. Because saying it places the practitioner in direct conflict with the institutional position on which their professional standing depends.

So it is not said. And the person leaves without what they came for. And after enough visits without what they came for, something shifts. The certainty about what they experienced begins to loosen. The pattern they can see, consistent with what thousands of others describe in clinical language that crosses country and culture and prior health status, begins to feel less solid under the weight of repeated authoritative denial.

They start to hold the question of whether they are seeing what they are seeing or whether the need to make sense of what happened is producing a pattern that is not there.

That process is a specific form of suffering that compounds the physical with the existential. It raises the question, which no person in serious physical distress should be required to hold, of whether the reality they are experiencing is the reality there is. Whether they can trust the evidence of their own body. Whether the institutions with the authority to validate their experience are right and they are wrong.

The person who came to medicine with complete trust and was turned away by medicine’s managed response is now not only sick. They are uncertain whether they are sick in the way they believe themselves to be sick. The institutional framework that should have been the ground of their certainty has become the source of their doubt.

This is the gaslighting that was not designed as gaslighting and functions as gaslighting regardless of the design.

And it has been applied to tens of thousands of people, in clinical setting after clinical setting, for years.

The Sacred Vaccine and the Silenced Scientists

Something happened to the vaccines during COVID that had no precedent in the history of pharmaceutical products.

They became sacred.

Sacred in the precise sense of being placed beyond the ordinary critical engagement that every other medical product is subject to as a matter of scientific and democratic course. The questioning of them was repositioned as a moral failing. The person asking about the safety data was not engaging in the normal behaviour of an informed citizen evaluating a medical product. They were a threat. A vector of dangerous misinformation. An enemy of public health whose questions themselves caused harm regardless of whether the questions were legitimate.

The independent scientists who identified contamination and safety issues were not welcomed as the functioning immune system of a healthy scientific culture. They were managed. Their findings described as misinformation before the institutions doing the describing had produced the evidence to support the characterisation. Their methods and credentials subjected to scrutiny that the published work of scientists whose findings supported the official position did not routinely receive.

The findings themselves accumulated regardless. About the presence of DNA fragments in mRNA products at levels not disclosed by regulatory agencies. About the distribution of lipid nanoparticles to tissues the original biodistribution data said they would not reach. About the persistence of spike protein at sites and durations the original pharmacokinetic data did not predict. About the particulate contamination identified in vials across multiple independent laboratories in multiple countries.

These findings were not produced by people with an agenda against the vaccines. They were produced by scientists applying rigorous methods to questions that should have been asked before the products were deployed at population scale and were not.

They remain largely unengaged with by the institutional research infrastructure. Not refuted. Not incorporated into an updated understanding of the safety profile. Ignored. Left to accumulate in the literature and in the communities of the injured who have been doing, without the resources of institutional science, the work that institutional science will not do.

The doctors who raised early concerns paid the price that the sacred vaccine’s maintenance required. Licence reviews. Platform removals. Hospital privilege withdrawals. The professional destruction of people who had spent decades building credibility and were willing to spend it because the obligation to the people in their care was more immediate than the obligation to the institutional position.

They have not been rehabilitated. The positions they held first have been quietly incorporated into the evolving institutional understanding without attribution. The people who held them first are still in the professional wreckage of having done so.

The Social Abandonment

The institutional abandonment of the vaccine injured would be bearable with sufficient human support surrounding it. What many of them have encountered instead is the social abandonment that mirrors it.

The person who posted their story publicly found the content removed. Found themselves described as anti-vax regardless of their prior relationship to vaccines. Found their credibility challenged on the basis of the subject matter before the content was read. Found the people in their life reach for the institutional framing that had been distributed through every social channel specifically for this situation: the adverse events are rare, the symptoms are probably unrelated, correlation is not causation, doctors have not found anything definitive.

And then found the three words that represent the most concentrated cruelty available to someone whose body has been changed by something they were told was safe.

We told you so.

Three words delivered to people whose organs are failing, whose lives have been irrevocably altered, whose every day is a negotiation with a body that was changed by an injection many of them were coerced into receiving. Delivered not in sorrow that the warning went unheard. In the specific satisfaction of the person who was right and has decided that being right is more important than the person in front of them who is suffering.

The people who warned accurately did pay real costs for warning. The suppression of the early voices was serious and wrong and deserves its own reckoning. But the warning and the suffering are not in competition. The person who could not access the warning was not ignoring it from a position of informed choice. They were operating inside an information environment specifically constructed to make the warning inaudible. Their trust was not naivety. It was the product of a lifetime of reasonable experience that was betrayed by the institutions that shaped it.

We told you so says: your suffering is your fault. It is the verdict of the observer who has positioned themselves outside the situation rather than beside the person inside it.

Many people who say they care have, in practice, issued that verdict or said nothing. The injured looked up from the floor of their situation expecting the extending of a hand.

What many of them found was the confirming of a theory.

The Desperate Search

The injured are consuming supplements and protocols and alternative treatments that the official system will not acknowledge and that nothing, so far, has made whole.

I want to be precise about why this matters beyond the obvious fact that people in serious physical suffering deserve effective treatment.

The desperation is itself evidence. Evidence of a specific situation: serious physical suffering with no official treatment pathway. A condition without a clinical name in most jurisdictions and therefore no pharmaceutical or medical infrastructure organised around addressing it. A community told repeatedly at every institutional level that what they are experiencing is not what they say it is, and consequently forced into self-directed management of a serious illness without the professional support that serious illness requires.

The person trying the fifteenth protocol is not credulous. They are rational. They have exhausted the official options, which took approximately one appointment, and are doing what any person in serious distress does when the door they were supposed to walk through is closed. Looking everywhere the official channels will not look. Trying everything the official channels will not try. Hoping that something in the space institutional medicine has abandoned will produce the relief that institutional medicine has decided these people do not deserve the infrastructure to find.

The pharmaceutical companies whose products produced the injuries are not funding research into treating those injuries. The governments that mandated or coerced the injections are not funding it. The regulatory agencies that authorised the products are not funding it.

The injured are funding it themselves. With money many of them do not have, after the injury has already destroyed the financial security they had.

And the official system that should be doing this work is describing the people doing it in its absence as vulnerable people misled by wellness

The Financial Destruction and the Lives Behind It

The financial cost of vaccine injury is not discussed at the level it deserves.

The person who becomes seriously unwell following an injection does not simply lose their health. They lose the capacity to work at the level they worked before. They lose income. They lose career trajectories built over years that cannot be resumed at the point of interruption when the health does not return on the expected timeline.

They acquire costs. The appointments that produce nothing in clinical terms but cost money to attend. The private consultations with clinicians willing to engage outside the institutional framework, whose willingness to engage is precisely why they are outside it. The supplements and treatments and management strategies adopted because the official pathway does not exist. The mortgage that was manageable before that is now a threat. The savings that were supposed to provide security that are now medical expenses.

All of this is happening to people who did what they were told. Who took the injection because it was required for employment, because their children’s activities required vaccination status, because the person responsible for giving them the most accurate information available told them it was safe and effective and the responsible thing.

They followed the instruction. They received the harm. And the compensation process designed for exactly this situation was designed not to find them.

Behind these financial facts are marriages under strain that love alone cannot always hold. Friendships that thinned when the illness extended past the period that social goodwill can sustain. The social world that was built around capacities the injury removed. The person who was present and is now less available. The relationships that needed two capable people and now have one managing and one being managed and both being damaged by the imbalance.

The system that failed these people did not fail their bodies only.

It failed the entire architecture of their lives.

The Children Are Watching

There is a longer dimension to this that rarely enters the institutional accounting.

The children of the vaccine injured are observing what happens to a person who is harmed and then abandoned.

They are watching a parent whose body changed fight for recognition against systems that will not move. Watching appointments that produce nothing. Claims that go unanswered. The parent who reads research late at night because no clinician has given them an honest account of what happened. The online community that exists because the medical system left nowhere else to go.

They are watching their parent be disbelieved at institutional scale. By the same governments that compelled or pressured the injection. By the same media that described the product as safe and effective and never produced the correction. By the same doctors who said correlation is not causation while knowing, at some level, that the full picture was more complicated than what they were saying.

A child who watches this learns something that no civics class will override. They learn that the protection institutions offer is conditional. That the language of care and the exercise of care separate at the moment when care costs something. That the people who told them the institutions could be trusted with consequential decisions about their bodies have been shown, in the most concrete possible terms, what that trust was worth.

These conclusions are forming the political instincts of a generation. Not from cynicism. From careful observation of consistent evidence over years.

The institutions producing the lesson do not appear to have considered what the lesson

What the Community Built

The vaccine injured communities that exist online are among the most important human achievements of the last several years.

I say this without hyperbole. These communities were built entirely by the injured themselves, with no institutional support, against active institutional resistance, in the space that the official healthcare system abandoned. They are doing work that the official system should be doing and is not.

They are collecting symptom profiles with a consistency and granularity that formal research, if it were being conducted honestly, would require. They are identifying and testing treatment approaches that the clinical trial infrastructure will not test because the clinical trial infrastructure will not acknowledge the condition being treated. They are mapping the injury from the inside, from the lived experience of thousands of people whose presentations are consistent enough across country and culture and prior health status to constitute a clinical picture that any honest engagement with the data would recognise.

They are also providing the one thing the official system has been most completely unable to provide.

Being believed.

The person who enters one of these communities and describes what they have been experiencing, and is met with recognition, with the specific and irreplaceable relief of having something dismissed and denied by every official channel acknowledged as the real thing by people who know it from the inside, is receiving something that has clinical weight even if the official system will not acknowledge it.

The communities exist because the official system failed. They are doing the work the official system will not do. The people inside them are not conspiracy theorists or the psychologically vulnerable seeking community around shared delusion.

They are sick people who found each other when the healthcare system left them nowhere else to go.

What Was Said in the Darkness

Some of the vaccine injured have thought about dying.

I want to say this plainly because it is being said by the people experiencing it in the spaces where they speak honestly, and it is not being heard by the institutions with the capacity to respond to it.

Not all of them. But enough that it is a recognisable feature of the experience, described in the communities, named by the people inside it as part of what the situation contains.

The person who has spent years in serious physical suffering, who has been told by every medical authority they approached that the suffering is not what they say it is, who has watched their financial security erode and their relationships strain and their former self become progressively less accessible, and who has arrived at a place where the weight of continuing feels greater than the alternative.

This is not a psychiatric disorder existing independently of the situation. It is the predictable psychological response to a situation that has been specifically engineered, through the absence of every form of support that the situation requires, to be as difficult as possible to survive inside.

The research on mental health outcomes in the vaccine injured is not being funded by the agencies with the budgets to fund it. The clinical infrastructure that would identify the most at-risk and connect them with support is not being built because building it requires acknowledging the population it is for.

This is not a mental health crisis.

It is a human rights situation.

And the people responsible for it are still running the institutions that are producing it.

What Acknowledgment Would Mean

I want to name what the vaccine injured need first. Before the policy reforms. Before the compensation frameworks. Before the clinical infrastructure and the diagnostic codes and the research funding that honest institutions would have already built.

The acknowledgment that what happened to them was real.

Not in a carefully worded institutional statement calibrated to admit as little as possible while performing compassion. Something direct. Something that says: you were not wrong about what happened to your body. The pattern you identified was the pattern there was. The trust you gave was reasonable given the information you had access to, and it was betrayed by the people who held the information you were not given. You are not the person the institutional framing positioned you as. You are a person who was harmed. Who went to the institutions responsible for your care and was turned away. Who built community with other harmed people because the official structures would not hold you. Who has been carrying serious physical injury, often combined with financial destruction and relational strain and the specific weight of sustained institutional disbelief, for years.

That acknowledgment would not heal the physical injury. Would not return the years spent without diagnosis or treatment or support. Would not restore what the injury and the abandonment combined to destroy.

But it would end the compound harm. The harm that sits on top of the physical and in many cases exceeds it. The harm of being told that the reality you are living is not the reality there is. Of being positioned, by the institutions that produced your harm, as the anxious and the credulous and the conspiracy-minded.

The acknowledgment would say: you were right. The system was wrong. We are going to do the work, late and inadequate as it comes, to build what your injury required from the beginning.

No institution has said this. Every institution with the authority to say it has made the calculation that saying it costs more than the continued silence.

The injured are paying the difference between what the silence costs the institutions and what it costs them.

The Record That Does Not Dissolve

The official history of COVID is being written by the institutions involved. It is a history of an unprecedented challenge managed with courage and scientific ingenuity. The vaccines appear in it as the triumph of modern medicine. The adverse events as a footnote about rare outcomes identified through robust surveillance and managed appropriately.

The vaccine injured do not appear in that history. They are the people the official account requires not to be there.

But there is another record. It is being built in the legal proceedings the injured have initiated against defendants with vastly more resources. In the freedom of information releases that have produced internal documents the institutions never intended to become public. In the peer-reviewed literature accumulating outside the institutional mainstream. In the actuarial data of industries with no stake in the political management of the narrative. In the consistent testimony of tens of thousands of people across dozens of countries describing the same thing in the same clinical language.

That record does not require a single dramatic revelation to become definitive. It is already, for anyone reading it carefully and honestly, more than sufficient to establish that the official account is not consistent with the totality of the evidence.

It will reach the critical mass that makes the official position impossible to sustain. History tells you this with the consistency of a pattern that has never failed to produce the same outcome. The suppression of evidence of pharmaceutical harm, maintained through institutional coordination, has never survived indefinitely against the accumulation of the documented record.

The accounting will come. Later than justice requires. At greater cost to more people than it needed to be. In a form calibrated by the institutions delivering it to admit as little as possible while providing enough of the appearance of accountability to relieve the political pressure.

And the people holding the full record, the researchers and the lawyers and the journalists and the injured communities who have been documenting everything, will have access to the gap between the managed acknowledgment and the full truth.

That gap will be the next chapter.

The vaccine injured did not fail the system.

The system failed them.

And the silence that has surrounded that failure for years is not the silence of people with nothing to say.

It is the silence of people who have made a calculation about whose suffering is worth the cost of honesty.

That calculation is on the record.

And the injured are still here.

Still waiting.

Still carrying what was done to them, what was said to them, and what was not said to them.

Still building the communities that the official system will not build.

Still documenting what the official history will not record.

Still insisting, with the persistence of people who have no choice but to insist, that what happened to them was real.

It was real.

And the record will say so.

Whether the institutions are ready or not.

This is not a comfortable piece to write. It is a necessary one. The foundation of the medical freedom and COVID accountability movement is real, the harm was real, the institutional failure was documented, the suppression of data was genuine.

This piece is not about that foundation. It is about what has been built on top of it. And what Jordan Peterson, Carl Jung, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Viktor Frankl all predicted would happen if the people building it never stopped to examine.

There is a question that no movement wants to ask of itself.

It is the only question that genuinely matters.

Who is this actually for?

Not the stated answer. The actual one. The one that lives in the financial disclosures that are never published. In the decisions made when the cameras are off and the audience has gone home. In the gap between what the fundraising email promises and what the injured person receives when they finally reach the organization that claimed to exist entirely for them.

The COVID accountability and medical freedom movement was built on a genuine foundation.

Real harm. Real people whose injuries were dismissed, minimized, and systematically excluded from the official record. Real physicians whose licenses were threatened for asking questions their training and their oath demanded they ask. Real scientists whose data was suppressed by the very bodies that claimed to represent scientific integrity. Real families who lost people and were told, by institutions that knew better, that the loss was coincidence.

The foundation is real. The grievance is legitimate. The harm is documented.

What has been built on top of that foundation is not always what it claims to be.

And the thinkers this series has drawn on throughout, Peterson, Jung, Nietzsche, Frankl, Dostoevsky, gave us the framework to understand exactly why. Not as a condemnation. As a prediction. A pattern so consistent across human history that it warranted inscription in the deepest records of psychological and philosophical understanding.

The movement that does not examine itself becomes the institution it was built to oppose.

It has always been this way.

And understanding why is the beginning of doing something genuinely different.

The Helper’s Shadow

Peterson’s most important contribution to this conversation draws directly from Jung.

Every person who positions themselves as a helper, as an advocate, a healer, a voice for the silenced, a leader of a movement organized around the suffering of others, is operating from a mixture of motivations.

Some are genuine. The authentic care for the injured. The real anger at institutional failure. The genuine commitment to the truth the system suppressed at genuine cost to the people who tried to speak it.

And some are not.

The hunger for recognition. The need to be the person who knows what others don’t. The identity built on the injured remaining injured, because their recovery would dissolve the purpose the injury sustains. The financial incentive that has quietly become the primary shaper of what gets said, what gets left unsaid, and which injured people receive the most visible platform.

Jung called this the shadow. The unacknowledged, unexamined dimension of the self that does not disappear when a person puts on the advocate’s mantle. It travels with them. Into the organization they build. Into the content they produce. Into the community they cultivate. It operates beneath the stated motivation with a consistency that only honest self-examination can reveal.

The shadow does not check the moral credentials of its host before it begins operating.

It simply operates.

Peterson was specific about what the unexamined shadow in the helper produces.

It produces the helper who needs the helped to remain helpless. Because the resolution of the suffering would dissolve the identity the suffering sustains. The organization that measures its success not by genuine improvement in the condition of the people it claimed to serve but by the growth of its own platform, its own following, its own revenue.

It produces the physician-influencer whose injured patient count has become a marketing metric as much as a clinical reality. The advocacy group whose fundraising email arrives before the clinical guidance does. The conference where speakers’ fees are negotiated before treatment protocols are discussed. The influencer who discovered that the injured were more valuable as an audience than as people to be genuinely helped, and who made that discovery without ever consciously acknowledging it.

The movement built to expose institutional self-interest has, in significant portions, developed its own institutional self-interest.

This is not a scandal. It is a pattern.

One that every serious student of human psychology predicted with precision.

Clean Your Room First

Peterson’s most unfashionable instruction is also his most psychologically precise.

Before you attempt to fix the institution, fix yourself.

Not as a permanent deferral of external action. As a sequence. As the acknowledgment that the person who has not sorted themselves, who has not faced their own shadow, examined their own motivations, taken genuine responsibility for what is within their immediate reach, does not bring clarity to the problems they set out to address.

They bring their unexamined interior into those problems.

And the problems reshape themselves around the helper’s psychology rather than around the genuine needs of the people being helped.

The medical freedom movement has a visible and largely unacknowledged version of this.

The advocates who demand institutional transparency while their own financial arrangements remain entirely opaque. The organizations that call loudly for regulatory accountability while refusing to publish their own program outcomes. The physicians who speak with authority about what the injured need without having sat with a single injured patient long enough to hear what they actually say when no recording device is running.

The person who cannot organize their own relationships with honesty, cannot examine their own anger with precision, cannot distinguish between the cause they serve and the identity the cause provides, that person is not equipped to organize a movement that genuinely serves others.

Not because the external problems they point to are not real.

Because the chaos they are avoiding in their own life will be projected outward into every reform effort they undertake.

Peterson’s sequence is not a small thing.

It is the difference between a movement that produces genuine change and one that produces a new class of people with the same incentive structures as the class they replaced.

Ressentiment: The Poison in the Well

Nietzsche identified the precise psychological poison that corrupts movements built on genuine grievance.

He called it ressentiment.

Not the grievance itself, which was often real.

But what the person chooses to do with it.

The wound that becomes an identity. The injustice that becomes a permanent residence rather than a raw material. The daily return to the scoreboard of institutional crimes, not to build something from the accounting but to confirm, again, that the world owes a debt it has not paid.

Watch it in the post-pandemic accountability space.

The daily documentation of institutional failure, delivered not as analysis that might change something but as performance, the confirmation of a community’s shared identity as the ones who know, who suffered, who were vindicated, who are still waiting for the acknowledgment they deserve.

The conference circuit where the same speakers deliver the same speeches to the same audience and the injuries remain exactly as unresolved at the end as they were at the beginning, but the platform has grown.

The social media ecosystem where the person who has been most visibly wronged is elevated not because their analysis is most rigorous but because their wound is most photogenic.

Nietzsche’s deepest observation about ressentiment is the one that stings most in this context.

It is weakness wearing the costume of moral superiority.

The strong person, in Nietzsche’s framework, the person operating from genuine psychological health, transforms their wound into something. Into understanding, into action, into the building of something that did not exist before they showed up to build it.

The person of ressentiment transforms the wound into an identity. And then protects that identity from the very healing that would dissolve its purpose.

Because if the wound heals, the identity goes with it.

And the identity is all they have.

The Internet Post Is Not the Act

There is a specific and extensively documented psychological phenomenon called moral licensing.

When people perform a virtuous act, express the correct values publicly, share the important content, visibly align themselves with the right cause, they give themselves unconscious permission to behave with less actual virtue in the areas that require genuine action.

The performance of the virtue substitutes for its enactment.

It is the mechanism behind the environmentalist who flies private. The social justice advocate who treats the people immediately around them with contempt. And the COVID accountability voice who posts daily about institutional courage while building nothing that requires any of their own.

Writing about resistance is not resistance.

Posting about courage is not courage.

Sharing the content of people who did the hard thing is not doing the hard thing.

Social media has constructed an extraordinarily efficient system for delivering the psychological rewards of moral action, the validation, the sense of contribution, the identity reinforcement, the community of the similarly outraged, without requiring the actual action.

The physician who posts about medical freedom every day from comfortable retirement does not carry the same weight as the physician still practicing, still sitting with the vaccine-injured patients the system has abandoned, still filing the reports the system makes slow and unrewarding and professionally risky.

The parent who shares the accountability content without attending the school board meeting, without reading the primary literature, without having the uncomfortable conversation with the pediatrician has performed the identity.

They have not done the work.

And the gap between the performance and the work accumulates into the specific bitterness of the person who believed they were contributing and cannot understand why nothing has changed.

The world does not change in response to posts.

It changes in response to the patient, unglamorous, unspectacular work of people who showed up, built things, kept going when the audience was not watching, and measured their success not by their follower count but by the genuine improvement in the condition of the people they were there to serve.

That work is available.

It requires something the post does not.

It requires closing the screen.

The Totalitarian Impulse in the Freedom Movement

Peterson’s most counterintuitive and most important observation is this.

The totalitarian impulse is not the property of authoritarian governments or captured institutions.

It is a feature of any movement that has decided its cause is important enough to override individual judgment.

Watch it in the medical freedom space.

The community where questioning the movement’s preferred treatment protocols is treated with the same dismissal that the mainstream directed at questioning the official guidance. Where expressing genuine uncertainty about a claim that outstrips its evidence is met with suspicion rather than engagement. Where the social cost of disagreeing with the prominent figures inside the movement is approaching the social cost of disagreeing with the prominent figures outside it.

The freedom movement that demands intellectual conformity has not escaped the structure it was built to oppose.

It replicated it.

Different totems. Same mechanism.

And the injured people inside it, the ones who came looking for genuine help and found instead a community that needed their suffering to remain uncomplicated, unambiguous, and continuously in service of the movement’s preferred narrative, are paying for it.

Peterson was explicit about where this leads.

Any collective organized around a shared framework rather than genuine inquiry will eventually become an instrument of the power that accumulates within it.

The only protection against this, the only structural protection that has ever worked, is the individual who refuses the collective mind. Who insists on examining each specific claim on its specific evidence. Who will not trade the official consensus for the movement consensus. Who has done the interior work that makes genuine independence possible rather than performing independence as a new form of belonging.

That individual is the structural enemy of every soft totalitarianism.

Including the kind wearing freedom’s clothing.

Empty Authority

Everyone speaks with authority now.

Every voice in the accountability space has a framework, a following, a body of evidence that conveniently confirms the position already held, and a tone that performs expertise regardless of whether the expertise has been genuinely earned.

Peterson identified what is absent from almost every public voice in this space.

The Logos.

Not words. The word that aligns so precisely with what is actually true that speaking it requires no performance. The Logos does not calibrate its content for the algorithm. It does not simplify beyond what the evidence actually supports because the simplified version serves the fundraising better. It does not deliver conclusions with confidence that outruns the data because confidence is the product the audience pays for.

It says what is actually there. As precisely as possible. Including the parts that are uncertain. Including the findings that complicate the preferred narrative. Including the honest acknowledgment that some claims made in the name of the movement were stronger than the evidence warranted.

The specific corruption Peterson identified in institutional medicine, the gap between what is actually known and what is communicated with the certainty that authority requires, is operating in the accountability space too.

Different direction. Same mechanism.

The influencer who knows the claim exceeds the evidence but makes it anyway because strong claims generate engagement and engagement generates revenue.

The organization that presents preliminary findings as established conclusions because the established conclusion raises more money than the honest uncertainty does.

The physician who speaks outside their actual clinical expertise with the tone of someone well within it, because the audience rewards confidence and penalizes the admission of limits.

This is not the Logos.

It is the performance of the Logos.

And the people trusting these voices deserve the genuine article.

Frankl’s Question

Viktor Frankl survived Auschwitz.

He had more legitimate claim to bitterness, to the permanent documentation of institutional evil, to the positioning of himself as the definitive voice of suffering, than almost any human being of the 20th century.

He wrote Man’s Search for Meaning instead.

Not a denial of what happened. Not a performance of forgiveness that bypassed genuine reckoning. A transformation. The raw material of survival, the specific, searing, irreplaceable clarity that only comes from having been tested at the absolute limit of human endurance, converted into something that gave millions of people across generations a framework for finding meaning in their own suffering.

He used what he survived.

Frankl asked one question of everyone who came to him having endured something terrible.

Not: what did you suffer?

Not: who wronged you?

Not: have they been held accountable?

He asked: *what did you build with it?*

That question is the only one that points toward the one freedom no system, no institution, and no pandemic policy can finally take.

The freedom to choose what you do with what was done to you.

The COVID-era movement has real raw material.

Direct knowledge of how institutional capture operates. Personal experience of what it costs to hold a position under social and professional pressure. Clinical and scientific understanding of the specific failures that occurred. The hard-won wisdom of people who were tested, who paid the cost, who held their positions when holding them was genuinely expensive.

None of that converts automatically into something useful.

It requires the choice Frankl always insisted was available even in the worst conditions.

The choice of what to build with what you survived.

The Witness and the Martyr: One Final Distinction

There is a difference between a witness and a martyr.

The witness tells the truth and gets back to work.

The martyr tells the truth and makes the telling the work.

Both required courage. Both paid genuine costs. Both have a legitimate claim on the respect of the people around them.

But they face in fundamentally different directions.

The witness is oriented toward what still needs to be done. The truth they told is the foundation for action, not the destination. They are not attached to the identity the telling produced. They would prefer, given the choice, a world in which the truth did not require personal sacrifice to speak.

The martyr is oriented toward the wound. The truth they told has become the central fact of their identity. The cost paid has become their primary credential, their primary offering, and in too many cases their primary reason for continuing to exist in the public conversation at all.

The line between them is crossed gradually and without the person noticing. Because the social rewards for the martyr identity are genuine, the validation, the recognition, the belonging of people who share the understanding of what was done and what it cost.

But the martyr identity points backward.

And everything the situation requires points forward.

The preparation of the next generation. The building of clinical structures that can hold independent judgment without fear of license review. The patient construction of communities that will sustain people through whatever comes next. The training of physicians, parents, and ordinary citizens in the specific psychological and epistemological skills that genuine independence requires.

That work does not care about your credentials. It does not require your suffering to be acknowledged before it begins. It does not need an audience.

It needs only the choice the witness makes. Every day.

Tell the truth.

And then get back to work.

The Only Question That Survives Everything

Nietzsche asked what you were building.

Jung asked whether you had examined your shadow.

Frankl asked what you had made with what you survived.

Peterson asked whether you had cleaned your room first.

The answer to all four questions is the same act.

Not a post. Not a thread. Not a conference keynote or a fundraising email or a documentary that will be watched by the audience that already agrees.

Something that exists in the world after you have made it. That serves someone who genuinely needs it. That moves the situation forward in a measurable way. That you would be equally willing to see produced by someone else, with someone else’s name on it, as long as it genuinely helped the people who were harmed.

That last condition is the test.

The person who passes it is serving the cause.

The person who cannot imagine celebrating the outcome if their name is not attached to it is serving themselves.

Both exist in this space. In significant numbers. Often in the same person, in the same day, in the same post.

The work is not to condemn either.

The work is to be honest enough about which one you are, in the private accounting that no audience sees, to do something genuinely different about it.

The foundation of this movement is real. The harm was real. The injured people are real. The institutional failures are documented and consequential and demand a genuine response.

They deserve better than advocates who have not done the interior work.

They deserve the witness who has examined their shadow, cleaned their room, and built something with what they survived.

That person exists.

There are more of them than the loudest voices suggest.

And the movement the injured actually need is built one examined, honest, forward-facing person at a time.

Starting with the question that no audience can answer for you.

Is this actually for them?

Sit with it.

Answer it honestly.

And build accordingly.

And each was certain the other was not just wrong but dangerous.

The compliant saw the questioning as selfish, ignorant, and lethal. The questioning saw the compliant as captured, cowardly, and complicit. The space between them, where genuine thinking and genuine conversation might have produced genuine understanding, had been systematically destroyed.

Jung had a term for the psychological function that operates in exactly this kind of paralysis.

The transcendent function.

It arises, Jung argued, at the point of maximum tension between two opposing positions that cannot be reconciled by argument alone. Not by choosing one side. Not by splitting the difference. But by holding both positions simultaneously, in genuine tension, long enough for something genuinely new to emerge.

The transcendent function is not compromise. It is not the weak middle. It is the third thing that neither position could have produced from within itself, the position that integrates the truth in each and transcends the limitations of both.

The pandemic collapsed the transcendent function almost immediately.

Not because the positions were irreconcilable in principle. They were not. Genuine public health concern and genuine autonomy advocacy are not opposites. Respect for collective risk and respect for individual conscience are not incompatible. The complexity of the evidence demanded exactly the kind of multidimensional thinking that the transcendent function produces.

But the systems that shape public discourse, social media, cable news, regulatory communication, institutional positioning, are not designed to support the transcendent function. They are designed to amplify and intensify the binary.

Because the binary is engaging. The binary produces outrage. The outrage produces clicks, shares, ratings, and compliance.

The transcendent function requires something the binary does not allow.

Genuine tolerance of ambiguity. The capacity to hold uncertainty without resolving it prematurely into a team.

That capacity is not given. It is built. Through the slow, private work of sitting with contradiction long enough to hear what it is actually saying.

The people who retained it during the pandemic, who could say simultaneously “this virus is real and serious for some people” and “this response is causing serious harm to other people”, were not fence-sitters.

They were the only ones thinking clearly.

The transcendent function is what civilization requires when its binaries are burning everything down.

It begins with the willingness to let go of the comfort of certainty and sit with the discomfort of truth.

Loki. Coyote. Hermes. Anansi. The Fool.

Jung identified the Trickster as one of the most fundamental archetypes in the collective unconscious, not because human beings love chaos, but because the psyche understands something that institutions never want to admit.

Order, taken to its extreme, becomes rigidity. And rigidity, left unchallenged, becomes a prison.

The Trickster’s function is not destruction for its own sake. It is the disruption of systems that have become too closed, too certain, too defended against the reality they were built to manage.

COVID was, among other things, an extraordinary Trickster event.

It did not arrive politely within the categories the health systems had prepared for it. It did not respond predictably to the interventions applied to it. It did not distribute its harm evenly across the populations that had been told they were equally at risk. It exposed the fragility of supply chains, the brittleness of institutional trust, the inadequacy of models, and the enormous gap between the authority claimed by expert systems and the actual knowledge those systems possessed.

This is what the Trickster always does. It does not attack the system from outside. It finds the place where the system’s own logic has become disconnected from reality and makes that disconnection visible.

The institutional response to the Trickster is always the same: double down on authority. Increase certainty. Suppress the information that reveals the inconsistency. Punish the messengers who point at the gap.

This response always makes it worse.

Because the Trickster is not defeated by more rigidity. It is only integrated by the willingness to look honestly at what it is pointing at.

The scientists who acknowledged uncertainty were not undermining public health. They were doing the one thing that could have preserved it: telling the truth about the limits of what was known.

The Trickster cannot be shut up. It can only be listened to.

And every crisis in history that was managed by increasing the volume of institutional certainty over genuine acknowledgment of uncertainty has produced the same outcome.

More chaos. Later. With less capacity to respond to it.

The Trickster was trying to tell us something.

The question is whether we are finally willing to hear it.

Three of the most disturbing psychological experiments in modern history, placed in a Venn diagram with COVID policy sitting precisely at their intersection.

They were not wrong.

I have been thinking about this diagram for a long time now. Not because it is clever, though it is. Because it is accurate in a way that most people’s frameworks for understanding what happened during COVID do not allow them to see. The standard framings, political left and right, institutional failure versus institutional capture, incompetence versus malevolence, all of them miss what the diagram names. Which is that what happened was not primarily political or institutional in the ordinary sense.

It was psychological. It was a demonstration of what human beings do under specific conditions. Conditions that were not accidental.

Milgram: Obedience to Authority

Most people know the Milgram experiment in outline.

1. Stanley Milgram designs a study to understand how ordinary German citizens participated in the Holocaust. He wants to know whether what happened required monsters or whether ordinary people, under the right conditions, would do the same.

What he finds is not a German answer. It is a human one.

Ordinary Americans, recruited from the general public, administered what they believed were severe electric shocks to screaming strangers at the instruction of a man in a white coat. Not all of them. But most. Far more than anyone predicted before the study ran. They continued after the subject in the other room stopped responding. Some continued until they believed they had delivered a potentially lethal dose.

They were not monsters. They were ordinary people. The authority was sufficient. The responsibility was diffused across the chain of command. The institutional framework made the harm feel like compliance with a legitimate instruction rather than a choice they were personally making.

We wrote about how COVID replicated this at planetary scale. The doctors who enforced treatment protocols that contradicted the clinical evidence in front of them. The employers who processed terminations for the unvaccinated with an efficiency that had nothing to do with grief and everything to do with institutional role. The family members who enforced the separation from dying relatives with a firmness that they would not have recognised in themselves two years earlier.

The authority was total. The diffusion of responsibility was complete. The institutional framing made the harm feel like responsibility.

Milgram, at planetary scale, with the whole world as the laboratory.

Asch: Conformity Over Perception

The Asch conformity experiments are less famous than Milgram’s and more disturbing in some ways.

Solomon Asch, working in the early 1950s, wanted to understand something simpler and more fundamental than obedience to authority. He wanted to know what would happen to a person’s stated perception when the social group unanimously stated something different.

The experiment is elegant in its simplicity. A subject is placed in a room with confederates who are in on the study. Everyone is shown lines of obviously different lengths. The confederates all give the same wrong answer. What does the subject do?

Most of the time, the subject gives the wrong answer. Not because they do not see the correct answer. They do. But the social pressure of unanimous group consensus is sufficient, for most people most of the time, to override direct sensory experience. To make them say publicly what they know privately is false.

This is the mechanism that masking a healthy population, cancelling Christmas, and training entire societies to treat their neighbours as biological threats actually operated through. Not the specific policies themselves. The social consensus those policies were designed to create and enforce. The environment in which the correct answer, this is disproportionate, this is not supported by the evidence, this is doing more harm than the thing it is supposed to prevent, was not sayable without placing yourself outside the group consensus in ways that carried real social cost.

Most people gave the wrong answer. Not because they could not see. Because the group was unanimous and the unanimity was sufficient.

Asch showed that this does not require fear or threat or anything dramatic. It requires only the social environment. The knowledge that everyone else is saying the same thing. The cost of being the one person in the room who sees differently.

COVID manufactured that environment at scale. Deliberately. Through the mechanisms of media consensus, platform management, and the social punishment of dissent. The person who said they could see the correct answer was not simply incorrect. They were dangerous. A vector of misinformation. A threat to the group whose consensus they were disrupting.

This is not a side effect of the pandemic response. It is the central psychological technology of it.

Stanford: The Cruelty That the Role Permits

Philip Zimbardo’s 1971 Stanford Prison Experiment was abandoned early.

It had to be. Ordinary students, randomly assigned roles of guards and prisoners, had within days produced a situation that Zimbardo’s team could no longer ethically sustain. The guards, ordinary young men with no prior history of cruelty, had become cruel. Not because cruelty was required by their role. Because the role gave them permission and the institutional structure backed them up. Because there was no mechanism for accountability and because the prisoner-subjects had been stripped of the cues that ordinarily trigger the empathic response in ordinary people.

The cruelty was not in them before the role was assigned. The role produced it.

We watched this in real time between 2020 and 2022.

The COVID marshals enforcing park closures with a zeal that their neighbours found unrecognisable. The border agents turning families away from dying relatives with an efficiency that the institutional position seemed to make not only permissible but required. The hospital administrators who barred visitors from patients in their final hours, not anguished by the policy but administering it. The HR departments processing termination letters for the unvaccinated. The teachers and neighbours and community members who reported, who enforced, who turned the social pressure of the Asch environment into active participation in the exclusion of the non-compliant.

Ordinary people. Assigned institutional roles or simply the role of the compliant member of the group whose consensus had been manufactured. Discovering, inside those roles, capacities that their pre-2020 selves would not have recognised.

Zimbardo’s insight is not that some people are cruel and some are not. It is that ordinary people, under the right institutional conditions, will produce cruelty without being cruel people. That the structure is sufficient. That the role is sufficient. That once the permission is embedded in institutional authority and the accountability is removed, the behaviour follows.

The suffering of the vaccine injured, the families kept from dying relatives, the children masked in classrooms, the people who lost their livelihoods for refusing an injection, was produced in significant part by ordinary people doing what ordinary people do when the institutional structure gives them permission and removes the accountability.

That is the most disturbing part of the Stanford finding. And it is the part COVID confirmed.

The Deeper Through-Line

Now go deeper. Because the convergence of these three experiments at a single historical moment is not as surprising as it appears if you know the institutional history behind them.

All three exist within the intellectual ecosystem of mid-twentieth century American social science, an ecosystem that was not purely academic. It was funded, shaped, and in some cases directly conducted by institutions whose interest in understanding human psychological compliance was not theoretical.

The CIA’s MKUltra programme ran from 1953 to at least 1973. Its stated purpose was the development of techniques for mind control that could be used in Cold War intelligence operations. Its actual scope was considerably broader. Unwitting subjects. Experimental drug administration. Sensory deprivation. Hypnosis. The systematic study of what conditions are sufficient to break down a person’s sense of individual identity and replace it with a managed alternative.

The programme was overseen by Sidney Gottlieb. Its research touched institutions across the American university system. Its participants included, directly or through funding relationships, people who moved between military intelligence, academic social science, and the medical establishment with a fluency that the disciplines’ official self-understanding as separate domains did not reflect.

The through-line is not conspiracy in the sense of a secret plan with minutes and signatures. It is institutional continuity. The same networks. The same funding streams. The same underlying question, pursued through different experimental frameworks across different decades: what are the conditions under which human beings can be made to do what they would not otherwise do? What are the conditions under which a population’s behaviour can be shaped without the population understanding that the shaping is occurring?

Milgram. Asch. Zimbardo. All three were asking, from different angles, the same question that MKUltra was asking with less academic restraint.

The answers they produced were not kept in academic journals. They entered the institutional knowledge base of the people responsible for managing large populations. They became tools. And the COVID period was, among other things, the deployment of those tools at the scale that had always been their intended application.

The Architecture Behind the Architecture

The Rockefeller medicine model, established in its modern form through the Flexner Report of 1910, did not simply capture medical education in the interests of pharmaceutical commerce, though it did that.

It established the epistemological framework through which the Western world would understand health and disease for the following century. The framework that reduces the human body to a mechanical system whose failures require chemical intervention. That positions the physician as the authority whose instruction the patient receives and follows. That systematically excludes from legitimate medicine every approach to human health that does not generate the dependency relationships pharmaceutical commerce requires.

Natural light. Frequency. The electromagnetic environment of the human body. The healing traditions that understood disease as a disruption of natural systems that could be addressed by restoring those systems rather than chemically overriding their symptoms. Robert Becker’s work on electromagnetic fields and biological systems, which gave people the theoretical tools to understand their own bodies in ways the pharmaceutical model cannot accommodate, was suppressed. Not because it was wrong. Because a population equipped with that understanding is a population less dependent on the system that the Rockefeller model built.

The deliberate policy-driven replacement of full-spectrum incandescent light with blue-light-dominant LED technology across schools, hospitals, offices, and public spaces, beginning as a major infrastructure push around the time of the Obama administration’s energy initiatives, produced neurological and endocrine effects in the populations living under it that the people who designed the policy had access to the science to predict. The circadian disruption. The melatonin suppression. The specific effects on the developing nervous systems of children in the LED-lit schools that we built for them while the research on what full-spectrum light does for human biology sat available and largely unconsidered by the people making the decisions.

These are not separate stories. They are dimensions of the same story. The story of the deliberate construction of an environment, across multiple decades and multiple institutional domains, in which the human being is maximally dependent, maximally manageable, and maximally separated from the natural systems and the knowledge that would render the management unnecessary.

COVID was the moment this architecture showed itself completely. The psychological compliance technologies developed through Milgram and Asch and Stanford. The medical authority structures established through a century of Rockefeller medicine. The information management infrastructure built through the surveillance and platform architectures of the preceding two decades. The legal and regulatory frameworks that had been assembling the liability protections and emergency authority structures that the rollout would require.

It was not assembled in 2020. It was deployed in 2020.

Most people still think it was about a virus.

The Battle That Was Always Spiritual

I want to say something here that the political and institutional framing cannot fully accommodate.

There is a 16th century book called The Spiritual Combat, written by Lorenzo Scupoli in 1589. It is one of the most precise accounts I have found of what the interior battle actually looks like. Not the external battle with institutions and systems, which is real and requires everything this essay has named. The interior one. The battle with the ego that mistakes its own certainty for wisdom. That mistakes its own fear for discernment. That mistakes the group consensus for truth and the institutional authority for moral legitimacy.

Scupoli understood something that Milgram confirmed and Asch confirmed and Zimbardo confirmed. That the deepest vulnerability of the human being is not to physical threat or institutional power. It is to the internal corruption of the faculty of judgment. To the ego’s preference for the comfortable answer. To the soul’s tendency to defer to the authority in the room rather than the authority within.

The COVID period was a test of that interior faculty at civilisational scale. And many people failed it not because they were weak people or bad people but because the cultivation of the interior faculty, the capacity to see clearly under social pressure, to hold to the perception of what is true when the group consensus says otherwise, to resist the institutional authority that offers the comfort of obedience in exchange for the surrender of judgment, had not been developed in them by the culture they had inherited.

The culture did not develop it because a culture that develops that capacity in its members is a culture whose members are difficult to manage.

The beauty that pulls us out of the ego is not incidental to this. It is the pathway. The moment of genuine encounter with something true and beautiful breaks the self-referential loop of the anxious ego reaching for the group’s reassurance. It restores, briefly and completely, the faculty that the manufactured consensus was designed to suppress. The capacity to see.

God is in the pain and distress. Not as the explanation of the pain or the justification of it. As the presence that the pain, when we stop managing it and allow ourselves to be inside it honestly, opens us toward. The ego that is broken open by suffering, that has been stripped of its prior assumptions and its prior sense of invulnerability, is the ego that can receive what the ego intact cannot. The understanding that we live inside a paradigm that gets us through the day but that the full truth is larger than what any paradigm can hold. That we can be guided from within if we cultivate the ground that the Holy Spirit requires.

This is not separate from everything else this essay has named. It is the deepest response to it. The institutions that ran the experiment on all of us were, at their foundation, operating on a particular assumption about human nature. That it is manageable. That it can be shaped by sufficient fear and authority and social pressure. That there is no interior faculty that lies beyond the reach of the Milgram apparatus.

They were wrong about this. Not because enough people resisted successfully in 2020, though some did. But because the faculty they were trying to suppress is not finally suppressible. It is the image of God in the human being. The part that knows, below all the noise of the manufactured consensus, what is true. That cannot be finally gaslit. That persists, battered and uncertain and sometimes very quiet, through everything that is done to silence it.

The spiritual combat is not over. It was not decided in 2020. It is being decided in the interior of every person who is willing to hold the question honestly rather than reaching for the reassurance of the group.

In the willingness to see what the diagram is showing.

In the refusal to give the Asch answer when you can see the correct line.

In the part of you that knows, even when everything in the room is saying otherwise.

That part is where the battle is.

And it is where it has always been.

What the Diagram Says

Milgram. Asch. Stanford.

Obedience to authority. Conformity over perception. Cruelty enabled by institutional role.

All three. Simultaneously. At global scale. With decades of preparation behind them.

The diagram is not an accusation. It is a diagnosis. And the diagnosis is more useful than the accusation because it points toward what is required in response.

Not only the institutional accountability, which is necessary and which this body of work has tried to name clearly. The interior work. The cultivation of the faculty that the experiment was designed to suppress. The slow, unglamorous, deeply personal work of developing the capacity to see clearly under pressure. To hold to perception when the group says otherwise. To refuse the role the institution is offering when the role requires the surrender of what you know.

Scupoli called it the spiritual combat because he understood that this is not primarily a political or institutional struggle. It is a struggle for the soul’s integrity. For the faculty of genuine perception. For the capacity to be, in the specific conditions of your own moment, the person who sees the correct line and says so.

The experiment was run on all of us.

Some people passed it. More failed it than Milgram expected and Asch expected and Zimbardo could sustain watching.

The experiment is not over.

It is being run, in new forms, every day.

The question it keeps asking is the same question it has always asked.

What will you do when the authority tells you to continue?

What will you say when the room gives the wrong answer?

What will you become when the role gives you permission?

The answer is not given by the institutions. It is not given by the group.

It is given in the interior. In the place that beauty reaches and fear does not. In the ground where the Holy Spirit moves when we have been humble enough to stop filling it with the noise of the ego’s management of its own anxiety.

God is in the pain. God is in the question. God is in the part that persists when everything designed to suppress it has done its work.

And that part, if we tend it honestly, is the thing that the experiment cannot finally reach.

It was the predictable and in some cases deliberately engineered, outcome of a communication strategy that required an enemy.

Every effective propaganda campaign needs a target. Someone whose existence explains the ongoing threat. Someone whose behaviour justifies the continuation of emergency measures. Someone onto whom the fear and frustration of the compliant population can be redirected.

During COVID that target was the non-compliant.

The unmasked. The unvaccinated. The people asking questions. The ones who looked at the data and reached different conclusions than the institutions wanted them to reach.

They were not simply wrong in the official framing. They were dangerous. Selfish. Responsible for the deaths of others. A threat to the people you loved most.

That language was not chosen carelessly. I wrote about that in my Autopsy of the Psychological Language being used during the pandemic.

It was chosen because it works. It transforms a policy disagreement into a moral emergency. It makes the questioning neighbour feel like a physical threat. It gives the compliant person not just permission but obligation to enforce, to cut off, to report, to condemn. And it worked.

Across millions of families. Across decades of friendships. Across communities that had survived economic crises, political disagreements, and genuine tragedies, but could not survive this particular, carefully manufactured divide.

They want us to be divided and against each other, so instead of fighting and fueling the fire. Use that energy towards those who initiated it.

To understand what happened you need to understand what fear does to the social brain.

Human beings are tribal animals.

The deepest evolutionary programming we carry is oriented toward two things, belonging to the group and identifying threats to the group. These are not rational processes. They operate beneath the threshold of conscious reasoning and they operate fast.

When fear is sufficiently activated and the COVID communication strategy was designed to maximise fear, the social brain begins sorting. Safe and dangerous. Us and them. Compliant and threatening.

This sorting is not primarily about evidence. It is about emotional contagion and social signal. If the people around you are frightened and the institutions you trust are saying the threat is real and human, the programming activates regardless of whether the underlying claim withstands scrutiny.

And here is the part that makes it so effective as a tool of social control.

Once the sorting has occurred, once someone has placed a family member or friend in the category of threat, reversing that placement is psychologically costly. It requires admitting that the fear was manipulated. That the relationship was sacrificed on the altar of a manufactured emergency. That the person they cut off or condemned was not dangerous but simply inconveniently honest.

Most people cannot afford that admission.

So the division persists long after the emergency has passed.

The government did not need to keep the divide active. It had been internalised.

Jesus Did Not Come to Bring Peace. He Came to Bring a Sword.

Matthew 10:34.

Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.

This passage has confused comfortable Christianity for two thousand years. How does the Prince of Peace speak about a sword?

Because He understood something that sentimentality about faith always tries to avoid.

Truth divides.

Not because truth is divisive by nature, but because truth, when it arrives in a world organised around comfortable lies, necessarily separates those who are willing to see from those who are not. It separates those who will pay the cost of honesty from those who will pay any cost to avoid it.

The sword is not violence. It is discernment. The cutting edge of genuine reality meeting a world that has organised itself around its absence.

COVID drew exactly this line.

Not between vaccinated and unvaccinated, that was the line the institutions drew. The deeper line was between those willing to look honestly at what was happening and those who needed not to look. Between those who could tolerate the discomfort of an inconvenient truth and those for whom that discomfort was genuinely intolerable.

That line ran through families.

Through marriages. Through friendships of decades.

Jesus said it would. He said a man’s enemies would be members of his own household. He was not predicting something that should not happen. He was describing the inevitable consequence of standing for truth in a world that prefers its absence.

COVID did not create the narcissism epidemic. It revealed it.

A culture that had spent decades optimising for self-image over character, for performance over substance, for the carefully curated presentation of the self over the honest encounter with what is actually true, that culture produced people who, when the moment of genuine moral test arrived, could not access the resources they did not have.

Courage is not available on demand. It is cultivated over years of small choices to tell the truth when lying would be easier. To stand apart when belonging feels essential. To sit with discomfort rather than immediately seeking its relief.

The compliant, the enforcers, the people who cut off their families for asking questions. they were not villains. They were people who had never been asked to develop the inner resources that the moment required. And the culture that raised them had not asked. It had rewarded self-promotion, social approval, and the appearance of virtue over its substance.

That age is ending.

Not because the culture has been reformed, it has not. But because the consequences of what that culture produced are now visible enough that people who are paying attention cannot look away.

The Renaissance of Love that must follow is not sentimentality.

It is the hard, patient reconstruction of the things that were destroyed.

Community built on genuine mutual knowledge rather than ideological uniformity.

Relationships honest enough to survive disagreement. Families strong enough to hold people who see the world differently without needing them to comply.

Trust rebuilt not through forgetting what was done but through the honest reckoning with it that genuine restoration requires.

There will be a split. I believe we are headed for a split maybe more than just one I don't know how that looks, but I don't see how moving forward so many are so adamant about their position. I think the Lord will sort us out.

The division will not heal by itself.

Time does not do this work. It requires something more deliberate and more difficult.

It requires the people who enforced the divide to acknowledge what they did. Not in a grand public gesture, in the small, private, costly moment of saying to the person they cut off. I was wrong about you. I was frightened and I let that fear make me cruel. I am sorry.

Most people will not do this. The psychological cost is too high and the cultural permission to do it is too low.

But some will. And those who do will find that the relationship on the other side of genuine honesty is stronger than the one that existed before, because it has been tested in a way that comfortable relationships never are.

The Renaissance of Love begins there.

In the small rooms. In the family dinners where the conversation finally happens. In the friendships that were fractured and are being slowly, carefully repaired by people willing to value the relationship more than they value being right

And it extends outward, into communities choosing genuine connection over enforced consensus. Into a culture learning, slowly and painfully, that unity built on the suppression of dissent is not unity at all.

It is a managed division waiting to be reactivated by the next manufactured emergency.

Real unity is built differently.

On truth. On love that does not require agreement. On the willingness to see the person in front of you even when what they are saying is inconvenient.

The sword divided.

Love is what rebuilds.

And that work, patient, humble, costly, is the only Renaissance worth having.

The economic destruction of the COVID period is not contested at the macro level.

Global GDP contracted by approximately 3.5 percent in 2020, the worst peacetime economic contraction since the Great Depression. Tens of millions of jobs were eliminated in weeks. Supply chains built over decades were severed. The informal economy, the street vendors, the cash-in-hand trades, the micro-businesses that sustain hundreds of millions of people in the developing world, was simply erased without government support and without media coverage.

In the United States alone, approximately 200,000 small businesses closed permanently during the pandemic period. These were not abstractions. They were family restaurants serving the same neighbourhood for thirty years. Independent bookshops. Local gyms.

The corner stores and the artisan workshops and the small manufacturers who employed three people and had survived recessions before but could not survive enforced closure.

Meanwhile Amazon’s revenue grew by 38 percent in 2020. Walmart. Target. The large logistics companies. The technology platforms. The pharmaceutical manufacturers. Every entity positioned to benefit from the elimination of smaller competition and from the mass shift of human activity into digital and delivery channels, saw extraordinary gains. It is documented in the earnings reports.

The lockdowns did not affect all businesses equally. They affected them in ways that precisely corresponded to their size, small businesses closed, large businesses thrived, and the regulatory decisions that produced those outcomes were made by governments whose officials had financial relationships, through investments and institutional connections, with the companies that benefited.

COVID as I have stated many times, was indeed a compliance test for an economic reset.

The Cost of the Injured That No One Is Calculating

The economic cost of the vaccine injured and the millions dead is not being calculated anywhere officially.

It needs to be.

Millions have died and the injured remain. They are a population of people who were, in many cases, at the productive peak of their working lives, mid-career professionals, tradespeople, healthcare workers, entrepreneurs, who are now unable to work, often unable to leave their homes, and generating ongoing medical costs that their depleted savings and inadequate disability systems cannot cover.

The calculation includes lost lifetime earnings across hundreds of thousands of people. It includes the care burden transferred to families who must restructure their economic lives around a member who can no longer function independently. It includes the social support costs that fall on systems that were not designed to absorb this volume of complex, chronic, multi-system illness.

It includes the downstream costs of children growing up with a sick parent. Of businesses that were never started. Of innovations that were never produced. Of the accumulated human capital that was in those bodies before the injections damaged them and is now largely inaccessible.

No government has commissioned this calculation.

Which is itself a data point about how seriously those governments take their responsibility to the people they injured.

Walk through the downtown of almost any mid-sized city in the Western world.

What you find is the visible record of what was done.

The empty storefronts. The for-lease signs on spaces that once held businesses serving communities for generations. The restaurants that did not reopen.

The independent retailers replaced, where they have been replaced at all, by chains that are themselves increasingly struggling.

This is not the natural evolution of the economy.

It is the outcome of a specific set of policy decisions, enforced closure, differential treatment of large versus small businesses, the suppression of cash transactions, the acceleration of digital dependency that restructured the economic landscape in ways that benefit centralised, technology-dependent, scale-advantaged entities at the expense of the local, the independent, and the human-scaled.

The psychological cost of this hollowing is real and underappreciated.

The downtown is not merely an economic zone. It is the physical expression of community. The place where people encounter each other outside the home and workplace. Where the local economy creates local identity. Where the particular character of a place, its food, its craft, its gathered human energy, is made visible and accessible.

When that is gone, something more than economic activity is lost.

The social fabric that COVID policy tore through was woven, in significant part, from exactly these encounters, the local shop, the independent café, the neighbourhood institution that had been there long enough to be part of how people understood where they lived.

That fabric does not regrow automatically.

The COVID period produced the largest upward transfer of wealth in modern history.

In the United States, billionaire wealth increased by approximately 70 percent between March 2020 and October 2021. Globally the pattern was consistent. The people who entered the pandemic wealthy emerged from it dramatically wealthier. The people who entered it economically marginal were pushed further into precarity or out of economic participation entirely.

This transfer did not happen despite the policy decisions. It happened because of them.

The decisions about which businesses were essential and which were not. The decisions about how relief funds were structured and who could access them. The decisions about digital infrastructure, about contact tracing, about vaccine passports and the platforms required to implement them, every decision created winners and losers, and the winners were consistently the large, the connected, and the already powerful.

Whether this was coordinated intention or the emergent outcome of a system in which policy is made by people with financial relationships to the entities affected by policy, the result is the same.

The economic architecture of the Western world was restructured during COVID in ways that will take generations to fully understand and that will not be reversed by any normal political process.

If any government were serious about restoring the trust it destroyed, which I do not expect, but which honesty requires articulating, the accounting would be extraordinary.

Compensation for every small business that was forced to close by government mandate. Compensation for every vaccine injured person, calculated not just on medical costs but on lost earnings, lost career trajectory, and the full economic value of the life interrupted. Public reckoning with the financial conflicts of interest that shaped the policy decisions. Investigation of the wealth transfers that occurred and the regulatory decisions that enabled them.

The economic, psychological and biological cost of what was done to humanity during COVID is genuinely incalculable in its full scope.

Not because the numbers cannot be approached, they can, and researchers are working on it, but because the human cost behind the numbers is not fully capturable in economic terms.

The family business that was not passed to the next generation. The career that was not built. The community that was not sustained. The injured person who cannot contribute what they were capable of contributing.

These are not line items.

They are lives.

And the governments that made the decisions that produced them have not begun to reckon with what they owe.
